One of the points that has caused the most rivers of ink to flow regarding Intel processors, and not to speak precisely, is precisely its energy efficiency. Especially in the models for tower PCs, where in order to reach very high clock speeds at certain times, a TDP of 320 W has been allowed to be reached in the i9-13900KS, although not in a sustained way, it does demonstrate that brand designs could be more efficient. Well, that is what they supposedly would have solved in their future Intel Core 14, built under the Meteor Lake architecture.

The rumor mill regarding the Intel Core 14 is at least confusing in recent times. Although it is not information from the manufacturer itself, the fact that a polished version of the Intel Core 13 for desktop appeared not long ago on the roadmap has led to a conclusion and that is that the history of the eleventh generation is going to end. repeat. That is, we will have two architectures: one for laptops and the other for desktops.

Leaving aside the gossip about the possible cancellation of Arrow Lake, the supposed counterpart for computers for PC boxes. The normal thing in laptop processors is that they have a fixed TDP and designed for the different form factors. The most common in the latest generations are 15 W, 28 W and 45 W in ascending order of performance. Which makes it much easier to quantify performance per watt in a comparative way.

Well, everything indicates that the efficiency per watt of Intel’s Core 14 will be 50% higher than that of the current generation. Intel’s goal is for this to occur as a general rule across the entire range of processors and comparing chips with the same configuration and cores.

How do we know they mean laptop chips?

Due to the fact that the performance per watt is a somewhat tricky way of measuring performance, since as we increase the clock speed and with it the associated voltage, the energy consumption curve grows exponentially and, therefore, said ratio drops dramatically on top processors. Which, by the way, is the way in which certain chips that are not for PCs, since they are not x86, are sold as more efficient for the final public.

This would also add elements not only of the future generation, but also of the current one, such as AMX units to speed up AI processes. Which means that we will have two different units specialized in this type of task in the future chip.
