The manufacturer Intel has presented its new adapters Wi-Fi 7 that will assemble motherboards and laptops under the Intel platform. For many years, at RedesZone we have used Intel Wi-Fi adapters to carry out all Wi-Fi coverage and performance tests, for example, right now we have the Intel AX211 model to cover those devices that are Wi-Fi 6E. Now Intel has presented the new models with the new standard, do you want to know the characteristics of the Intel BE200 and BE202?
The Wi-Fi 7 standard is closer than ever, the main manufacturers of routers, but also WiFi adapters such as Intel, MediaTek and Broadcom, are launching their solutions with these pre-certified equipment. The Intel BE200 and BE202 models are the PCIe or USB Wi-Fi cards that will be mounted on high-end motherboards and also high-end laptops, in this way, they will have the fastest possible connectivity.
Main features
These new Wi-Fi cards are the evolution of the Intel AX210 and AX211 which have the Wi-Fi 6E standard. Right now it is not very clear what the difference is between the Intel BE200 and the BE202 model, because the exact same specifications appear on Intel’s official website, the only thing that is different is that the BE200 model is pre-certified for the Wi-Fi 7 standard and in the BE202 model this information does not appear. We believe that the BE200 model will be the adapter that we can buy and then mount it on our PC, and the one that manufacturers such as ASUS will use to launch their PCIe adapters. The BE202 model will be the one installed natively on its motherboards and also on laptops with an Intel platform. We think this judging by what happens with the Intel AX210 and AX211 models respectively.
The main wireless characteristics of this Wi-Fi adapter is that it is triple band with Wi-Fi 7, the maximum speeds that we can obtain with this card are the following:
- 2.4GHz band: Up to 688Mbps speed, thanks to its two internal antennas in MU-MIMO 2T2R configuration and 40MHz channel width.
- 5GHz band: Up to 2882Mbps speed, has two internal antennas with 2T2R MU-MIMO and also 160MHz channel width.
- 6GHz band: 5764Mbps speed, having 2T2R MU-MIMO and compatible with 320MHz channel width in this band.
This new Wi-Fi adapter has different form factors, it supports both M.2 2230 and M.2 1216, in addition, we have different interfaces available in the M.2 such as PCIe (the most common) as well as USB. According to the technical characteristics, this model supports both OFDMA and MU-MIMO. We do not have any reference to Multilink-Operation (MLO) that will allow us to connect to two frequency bands simultaneously, but taking into account that it is part of the Wi-Fi 7 standard, we believe that, if this card is certified with the new standard, it will also will have this feature.
The operating system supported by these Wi-Fi adapters are Windows 11, Windows 10 and also Linux. However, keep in mind that if you want to take advantage of the Wi-Fi 7 standard it will be necessary to have Windows 11 or Linux, since Windows 10 will not support this new WiFi standard.
We recommend you access the official website of the Intel BE200 and BE202 where you will find all the details.
