Make no mistake! Doing all this does not prevent them from stealing your home WiFi

Protecting the Wi-Fi network is very important to make the Internet connection work well and not have security problems. However, sometimes we make mistakes. We think that by making a change or adjusting the router we can improve protection, but it really doesn’t help. Therefore, in this article we are going to tell you everything that does not prevent them from entering your Wi-Fi.

Errors when trying to protect Wi-Fi

You can have intruders in your network of different kinds. It could just be a neighbor taking advantage of your unprotected network and getting in without much difficulty, or it could be a knowledgeable hacker who has managed to exploit a bug. To prevent both cases from occurring, it is important to take action.

Change network name

One mistake is to think that by changing the name of the network we can be more protected. For example, remove the typical name where the model of the router or the operator that we have contracted appears. It doesn’t mean that this change is bad or will put you in more danger, but it really isn’t effective.

An attacker with the necessary knowledge could equally trace the router model and get information. Therefore, actually changing the name is not going to make a significant change in security. Likewise, in case there are vulnerabilities or a bad password, they will continue to be there.

Hide Wi-Fi name

Another mistake when trying to protect the Wi-Fi network is to directly hide the name. This, in order to protect yourself from an inexperienced user, who simply tries to connect to your network, can make sense. But anyone with some knowledge could detect your network even if you choose to hide the name.

Hide the SSID It may seem that we create a kind of shield and the network becomes undetectable, but it is not like that at all. What’s more, it can make it more difficult for you to connect devices to your network.

Create a MAC filter

It doesn’t help much to create a MAC address filter. Again, yes it can be useful if you want a device of yours not to connect to the network or anyone who does not have the necessary skills. But when we talk about an experienced attacker, then there is no point.

An attacker could spoof the MAC address of a device approved to connect to the network and thus gain access. It’s not really an effective security measure and you should take it with a grain of salt.

Use a long, but simple password

The wifi password it is a fundamental security barrier. You should always have a key to prevent any intruder trying to gain access. But beware, you must create a password that is really secure. It doesn’t do much good to use a very long one, if you use things like your name and date of birth.

Ideally, use a password that is unique, completely random, and contains letters (both uppercase and lowercase), numbers, and other special symbols. That will help you avoid problems and really protect the security of your computer.

As you can see, it is essential protect your Wi-Fi network but you should avoid making these mistakes. It is important that you know how to improve security and thus avoid problems with the Wi-Fi network. Hackers can use different strategies and you should improve your protection as much as possible.
