MCPRO pills (CXXXIV): Telecommuting and Shadow IT, NAC, CIO rules

The removal of masks indoors may become the biggest obstacle facing teleworking at the moment. For many managers, it may be the perfect excuse to promote a massive return to the offices, from which perhaps some hybrid work scenarios can be saved, which allows both modalities to be combined.

And it is that as we have in the special with which we start the MCPRO Pills this week, one of the main problems that companies have detected when working remotely has been the rise of a Shadow IT which can compromise your computer security. By implementing the appropriate IT policies, this of course does not have to be the case.

But we tell you many more things. We talk about what the NAC is and how it can precisely help you reinforce the security of your company; We interviewed Ana Sánchez Galán, CIO of Línea Directa; and we explain how IT spending has evolved in Spain in the last year. Let’s start!

Teleworking under the shadow of Shadow IT

Almost all workers are seduced by the idea of hybrid work. Being able to work a few days from home so that, if they need to, they can go to the office for important meetings or carry out team activities. And although it is this new reality that many companies are heading towards, the truth is that when we analyze the figures of what is actually happening, hybrid work still has a “push” left to settle.

What is NAC and why is it important for the security of your company?

Since zero trust approaches have begun to make their way into the computer security schemes of companies, many IT departments are beginning to speak more and more frequently of NAC (Network Access Control), a technique that It prevents unauthorized users and unknown devices from accessing the organization’s private networks and, therefore, its sensitive information.
