microsoft is apparently Assessing a change in the Windows development cycle. According to Windows Central, the company would move to a major OS release every three years. And between one and the other I would publish smaller updates and more focused on new feature development. With this change, if it occurs, Microsoft would enter a longer cadence for new features. For now, according to Muycomputer, Microsoft neither confirms nor denies that it is going to make this change in the release of new features and versions in Windows.
If this change finally occurs, those of Redmond would leave behind their plans to release annual updates, announced last year, and return to a more traditional release scheme for Windows. This way, the company would not only have more time between updates to test releases worth turning into a new version.
It would also ease the pressure of upgrades on smaller businesses as well as professionals. In addition, Microsoft would make sure to have more new features ready for each new version of the operating system. If it released a new update every year, the news would be much less, and the new systems might attract less attention.
If we switch to this cycle at Microsoft, the next big update to its Windows operating system, the one that will be Windows 12, would arrive throughout 2024, and the plans to present a client version of Windows in 2023 would have been parked. What the company could do then is to release some of the functions that were planned for a new version of Windows in 2023 in smaller incremental updates, and reserve the rest for when the new version of Windows comes out, which as we have mentioned would see light in 2024.
These smaller updates would be part of a plan to release new software features by Microsoft around Windows, known as moments and that it is expected to start working in 2023. It will be a new system to introduce new features in the latest version of Windows, with a cadence of up to four updates each year. In fact, Microsoft has already tested its functionality by launching the Weather button on the Windows 11 Taskbar a few weeks ago.
