QNAP file manager operation and options

Using Qfile Pro is the easiest and fastest way to organize the files and folders of the NAS server, in addition, it will also allow us to download any file locally and we even have the possibility of uploading the files and folders that we want. For these reasons, this application is one of the most important of QNAP to locally and remotely manage your NAS.

What changes are there regarding Qfile?

This new Qfile Pro version replaces the previous Qfile version, therefore, all users who had the Qfile application installed, when they update the version, will automatically have this new one, with the aim that all customers enjoy the latest hassle-free news. The main novelties of this new version are the following:

  • recently processed files: the latest version of QTS 5.1.0 and QuTS hero h5.1.0 and later have a history of recently accessed and also deleted files, now this same feature is also present with the mobile application, so we can take a look at all recently accessed and deleted files.
  • Backup of photos, videos and file synchronization: the backup of photos and videos was already present, but now they have incorporated file synchronization, because they have integrated the functionalities of Qsync Pro to this new version of Qfile Pro, with the aim of not having several applications that do almost the same function.
  • Faster and cleaner GUI than the previous one, it has undergone some improvements over the GUI, but in essence it is like the previous one.

As you can see, the new Qfile Pro is not a revolution, but an evolution, since QNAP has incorporated a much-demanded feature that was the synchronization of files and folders using this app, without the need to use Qsync Pro in another app entirely. different.

Once we install the Qfile Pro application, or update it, a small wizard will appear to connect to myQNAPcloud and proceed to download the profiles of the NAS that you have registered. If we click on «QNAP account login (Global)«, it will ask us to log in with the QNAP account, if you have 2-step verification it will ask you for this one-time temporary code to log in with the app and import all the NAS that we have registered.

Once we log in, we can select our NAS, enter the username and then the access password. Of course, we still have the same options to log in via SSL, detect the port automatically or force us to use a certain port on the LAN and on the Internet.

Once you have logged in to your NAS server, we can now access all the files, folders and also application settings.

Management and configuration options

In the “Start” menu is where we can see the list of recently opened files, as well as recently deleted files and also updated ones. Also, if we choose a file or folder as “Favorite” we can see it here, to have much faster access. An important aspect is that if you use Qfile Pro, but on your NAS you still do not have version 5.1.0 of the operating system, everything will appear empty with no data.

In the “Folders” menu we now have it much better organized than before, we have a total of four tabs:

  • All: all shared folders will appear, mount remote drives (whether by Samba, FTP, SFTP or WebDAV) and we also have all the clouds that we have registered with HybridMount.
  • Local: Only local shared folders will appear, no external ones.
  • Remote: Only remote external shared folders, accessed by Samba, FTP, SFTP, or WebDAV, will appear.
  • Cloud: only the clouds that we have registered in HybridMount will appear.

In the old application we only had the tab «All«, and not classified by tabs. Now if we have many remote units or many clouds, we can find them much faster and easier than before, since we could have a long list where we have to scroll a lot.

In the section of “Share» is where all the files and folders shared with contacts will appear, within this menu we will have both the shared ones (those that we share with other people) and the received ones. In the “Menu” section is where we can see the status of the NAS, change the default connection method, log out, and even see the offline folders as well.

If we click on “background tasks» We will see all the tasks that the NAS server is doing to copy, move or delete files. When we do an operation with a large file, this menu will show us the status of the upload, download and also of the file operations if they are already within the storage of the NAS server. Of course, we can also see all the completed tasks, both uploads, downloads and file operations.

This menu was also present in the previous version of Qfile, but now the redesign of the graphical user interface will make it much better understandable, perfect for any user to make intensive use of this functionality.

In the menu “automatic charging» is where we can configure the automatic upload of the photo gallery to the NAS, and also the synchronization of files and folders that we want. The following menus are identical for both options, we will have to select the source of the photos or files, then we select the NAS that we have configured in the app. Finally, we will choose the destination folder on the NAS where we want to save all the data. As you will see in the following screenshots, the configuration is really simple, you just have to select both the origin and the destination well.

In the menu “Setting» We will get the different devices that we have registered in the application, and we can also add new NAS servers at any time, we simply have to add the private or public IP address, although it also supports a domain. Then we put the username, activate the secure login by SSL, choose the port, and later it will ask us for the access password.

As you can see, Qfile Pro is an evolution of the Qfile application that we all know. We now have a new graphical user interface, new file management options and also new features, such as file and folder synchronization, since QNAP has integrated Qsync Pro features into this application, with the aim of not having to so many apps installed on our smartphone.
