QNAP launches the QSW-1108-8T, a new 2.5G Multigigabit switch for home

The manufacturer QNAP has launched a new 2.5G Multigigabit switch for the home environment, this new switch is the QNAP QSW-1108-8T and is the ideal model to upgrade your Gigabit Ethernet network to a high performance multigigabit network. Very soon we will have Internet speeds in Spain higher than 1Gbps, and to be able to take full advantage of these speeds it is absolutely necessary to go to Multigigabit speeds, in addition, most of QNAP’s entry, medium and high-end NAS servers already have this connectivity to provide great performance. Do you want to know all the characteristics of this new unmanageable switch?

Main features

This new switch is a unmanageable modelIn other words, it does not have the QSS operating system inside to configure VLANs, Link Aggregation or QoS among many other available functionalities. This switch model is completely Plug & Play, we will simply have to connect it to the electric light and then connect the different computers or servers to their Multigigabit ports, to achieve the maximum possible speed in the local network and also facing the Internet, as long as the router also have a Multigigabit NBASE-T port.

This QNAP QSW-1108-8T switch has a total of 8 ports 2.5G Multigigabit, supports speeds of 2.5Gbps, 1Gbps and 100Mbps, therefore, it will adapt perfectly to the different equipment that we are going to connect, always providing the maximum synchronization speed thanks to the function of automatic speed detection. Of course, this switch has the function Auto MDI / MDIX, so you will not have to buy flat or crossed network cables, it will always be worth buying flat cables to connect any device to the switch. This model is compatible with Jumbo Frames up to 12K, in this way, we can achieve the maximum possible efficiency when we are transferring very large files.

Other important characteristics of this switch is that it has a capacity of 16K MAC address table, has a 40Gbps switching capacity and a non-blocking performance of 20Gbps speed. This model has the IEEE 802.3az standard Furthermore, to save energy, a very remarkable aspect is that this switch does not have any type of fan. We have one fully passive cooling Thanks to its housing, therefore, the noise generated by this switch is 0dB.

This new switch has different status LEDs on the front that will indicate the synchronization speed and activity, in addition, we also have an LED that will indicate if we have a loop in the switch, for example, if we connect a cable from the port 1 to port 2, we will generate a loop and the switch will automatically block these ports to remove this loop. As for the dimensions of this switch, it is 27mm high, 240mm wide and 105mm deep. We must also indicate that this switch is very light, it has a net weight of 0.6Kg.

As you can see, this QNAP 2.5G Multigigabit model is very simple, ideal for a home or small office environment where we want to upgrade the Gigabit Ethernet network to a high-performance Multigigabit network, in this way, we can transfer data to our NAS server at speeds of up to 290MB / s without any problem.
