This is not a surprise: Oppo announces the arrival in France of new Reno. We have been accustomed for several years to the Chinese brand taking advantage of the start of the school year to renew its mid-range offer. And despite the spring launch of the Reno 7, Oppo is not going to change its ways. Moreover, it is not one, but three models that will soon arrive in France. Indeed, the Reno 8 will be accompanied by a Pro version and a Lite version, in order to meet the requirements of all budgets.

The data sheets of the three smartphones are no secret. Indeed, the Reno 8s have been unveiled in China at the beginning of the summer. The Reno 8 Lite launched in June 2022, while its two bigger brothers landed there in July. The formalization of the launch in France is no less interesting. On the one hand, it allows us to confirm the components that we can find there, changes that may occur. And it also specifies the versions that we will benefit from in France in terms of storage and RAM.

Reno 8 Pro: a lighter Find X5 with beautiful finery

So let’s get to the heart of the matter with the Reno 8 Pro. This is a “premium” phone with a fairly muscular configuration, good photo performance and a design reminiscent of Find. Hot-forged glass on the back to integrate the photo module in an elegant way. Gorilla Glass 5 on the front. Aluminum on the edges. IP54 certified case against splashes and dust. 6.7-inch Full HD+ 120Hz AMOLED display. The bottom border is extremely thin here.

Under the hood, SoC MediaTek Dimensity 8100 MAX. The French version will have 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It is unfortunately the less good of the two offered in China. 4500 mAh battery compatible with 80 watt fast charging as on the Find X5 Pro. 5G, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless connectivity. Dual speaker powered by Dirac. Triple rear photo sensor: 50 MP (Sony IMX766) + 8MP (Sony IMX355) + 2MP (macro). And 32 MP selfie sensor (Sony IMX709) on the front. Everything is driven by the image coprocessor Marisilicon X. A very good news.

Reno 8: a very balanced smartphone

Let’s continue with the Reno 8. If it takes up the design of the Reno 8 Pro, it does not have all the advantages, of course. The shell is no longer glass, but polymer. At the front, Gorilla Glass 5. And on the edges, an alloy of aluminum, polymer and fiberglass. IP54 certified. At the front, the screen here measures 6.43 inches. It is AMOLED, Full HD + and 90 Hz. On the edge is a mono speaker, but still optimized by Dirac.

Under the hood, a MediaTek SoC here. This is the Dimensity 1300 that we have already tested in writing. It is accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 356 GB of storage, as in the Pro. Another common point with the Pro: the battery. 4500 mAh with 80 watt fast charge. Also, the Reno 8 takes over the photo sensors of the Reno 8 Pro, front and rear. That’s very good news. However, no Marisilicon X here. You have to justify the price difference between the Reno 8 and the Reno 8 Pro!

Reno 8 Lite: many concessions to reduce costs!

Let’s finish with the Reno 8 Lite. It’s the lightest of the bunch, but still retains its 5G connectivity, while the rest of the spec sheet remains balanced. Polymer shell on the front and on the edges. Schott mineral glass on the front. No IP54 certification. 6.43-inch AMOLED screen, Full HD+ and 60 Hz. Snapdragon 695 processor with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. 4500 mAh battery, but fast charging only 33 watts.

On the photo side, we find three sensors on the back: a 64 MP model signed Omnivision as the main module, a 2 MP macro sensor and a 2 MP monochrome sensor. In other words, the possibilities are limited. On the front, another 16 MP Omnivision sensor for selfies. Finally, on the connectivity side, the Reno 8 Lite benefits from WiFi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.1.

Finally, let’s talk about prices. The Reno 8 is offered at 599 euros. The Reno 8 Lite is sold at 449 euros. And the Reno 8 Pro stands at 799 euros. For comparison, the Reno 6 at 499 euros and the Reno 6 Pro at 799 euros. There is therefore an inflation applied only to the intermediate model. It is 100 euros. It remains to be seen whether it is justified in use, which we will tell you very soon in a complete test. Let’s not forget that telephony is experiencing inflation this year for various reasons (notably the shortage of components). On the occasion of the presentation of its products, Oppo explained to the editorial staff of PhonAndroid to have contained the increase as much as possible, especially in France. But this year, that was no longer possible.
