Returnal requirements, you will need 16 GB of RAM

we already have the return requirements, one of the highest-rated PS5 exclusives of last year. Acclaimed by users and critics (it won the BAFTA Video Games Award for Best Game of the Year), this title Coming to PC in early 2023probably in January of that year, and it seems that it will be quite demanding, although before going to see the requirements I want to discuss a couple of things with you.

First of all it is important to note that the Returnal requirements are too high both in their minimum level and in the recommended one, This would have two possible explanations. The first is that these requirements are inflated, which seems most likely to me, and the second is that the game is poorly optimized in its adaptation to compatible, something that I do not dare to rule out entirely.

Minimum Returnal Requirements

  • Windows 10 64-bit.
  • Intel Core i5-6400 or Ryzen 5 1500X processor.
  • 16GB of RAM.
  • Graphics card GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB or Radeon RX 580 with 8 GB.
  • 60 GB of free space.
  • SSD recommended.

Return Requirements

We have a small error in the CPU equivalence, since the Ryzen 5 1500X has 4 cores and 8 threads, and the Core i5-6400 has 4 cores and 4 threads. Its closest equivalence would be a Ryzen 3 1300X. For the rest, we see that the requirements are very high, although it is understandable since it is a game that was developed on the basis of PS5.

Recommended Returnal Requirements

  • Windows 10 64-bit.
  • Intel Core i7-8700 or Ryzen 7 2700X processor.
  • 32GB of RAM.
  • 8GB GeForce RTX 2070 Super or 12GB Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card.
  • 60 GB of free space.
  • SSD recommended.

In this case we have another equivalence error at the CPU level because the Ryzen 7 2700X has 8 cores and 16 threads, and the Core i7-8700K has 6 cores and 12 threads. The correct equivalence would be Ryzen 5 3600 which has 6 cores and 12 threads.

The GPU equivalence might be fine because it most likely refers to the setting to enable ray tracingand in that scenario the GeForce RTX 2070 Super is more or less on a level with the Radeon RX 6700 XT.

It is obvious that the recommended requirements are quite inflated, and that demanding 32 GB of RAM is absurd, especially considering that PS5 only has 16 GB of unified memory, of which between 2 and 3 GB would be reserved for the operating system and applications.
