Shikoku 1889: on Kickstarter the new edition of the board game on Japanese railways

It landed on Kickstarter, and has already been successfully funded, the Shikoku 1889, the new edition of the 2004 board game of Yasutaka Ikeda (Fengs, Shadow Hunters) entirely focused on the early years of Japanese railways.

The new edition of Shikoku 1889 arrives on Kickstarter

This is a more modern reissue and reissue of 1889: History of Shikoku Railways, the board game in which we will have to take on the role of a businessman who, at the end of the Japanese isolationist period (the period called Sakoku), will try to collect as many yen as possible by building railways on the main and narrow island of Japan; all obviously in a race for expansion against the other players around the table (from 2 to 6 players).

The Japanese Sakoku period (鎖 国) is over. The Meiji Restoration is underway and an explosion of technology has engulfed the country, with locomotives as the main symbol of modernization. Shikoku Island is no exception as rail operations emerge around the island and entrepreneurs try to make their fortunes.

In Shikoku 1889, you play the role of these entrepreneurs, who start and run railway companies to build the Shikoku railway network with the hope of amassing more wealth than all of your competitors by the end of the railway revolution.

Shikoku 1889 is a reissue of the classic 18xx title “1889: History of Shikoku Railways”. For nearly 2 decades, 1889 was considered the best introduction to the 18xx genre due to its short playing time and simplicity of regulation. While Shikoku 1889 is simple enough to be your first 18xx experience, it has incredible depth that will require a lot of play to fully discover.

The campaign has already raised over € 78,000 at the time of writing, with 18 days left to go.

The pledge has a cost of about € 45, to which the costs for shipping the game will then have to be added, which will take place in the month of September 2022.
