This will be a series that will explore an unknown part of the Star Wars universe and which will feature new characters. Even more, she wants to adopt a fresh tone by featuring teenagers, a new approach never seen before in the saga.

Skeleton Crew will be released in 2023. Lucasfilm hasn’t given a specific release date yet, but we know it will be good for this year. We can put a room for the second semester, and this for several reasons:

First of all, Disney has other series to air before this one. 1er next March we will have season 3 of The Mandalorian. Then it will be the turn of the Ahsoka series to enter the scene, perhaps during the summer. After only, the place will be made for Skeleton Crew. Secondly, the series finished filming in mid-January 2023. Following the usual process, so we will have to wait until the end of the year to see the episodes. Now is the time for editing and post-production.

What platform will Skeleton Crew be broadcast on?

There are no real rules for the Star Wars series, while The Mandalorian has 8 episodes per season, The Book of Boba Fett only has 7 and Obi-Wan Kenobi 6. Andor offers 12 episodes. For Skeleton Crew, the mystery is therefore complete.

How many seasons will Skeleton Crew have?

For the moment, only one season of Skeleton Crew has been announced. As usual, Lucasfilm could announce a new burst of episodes if success is there. The series isn’t attached to any other Star Wars content, like Obi-Wan Kenobi or Andor were, so there are theoretically no limits to the number of seasons.

What casting for Skeleton Crew?

Skeleton Crew will be headlined by Jude Law. We no longer need to introduce the British actor to the very rich filmography (Welcome to Gattaca, Sherlock Holmes, Fantastic Beasts, Captain Marvel…). He will sign here his entry into the Star Wars universe and will be surrounded by young novice actors.

Behind the camera, we also have beautiful people. We find Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau in production. The duo have previously worked on The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka (airing soon). Jon Watts and Christopher Lloyd, who worked together on Spider-Man Homecoming (the first as director and the second as screenwriter), will carry the series. A duo that has proven itself in the Disney house.

Skeleton Crew, what is it about?

For now, the Skeleton Crew storyline remains very mysterious, but we already have some information. The series will tell us the adventures of a gang of teenagers lost in space who are trying to get home. This young crew will be led by an adult: Jude Law. The very name of the series describes the background of the story. The term Skeleton Crew is an expression used to mean something that runs with minimal manpower.

Jon Watts, the showrunner, clarified that if the series will feature pre-teens, it will be primarily intended for adults, since it will adopt a dark tone. She will want a tribute to old Amblin films from the 1980s like ET the Alien, Gremlins or the Goonies.

Notably, this will be the very first live-action Star Wars series since The Mandalorian. to introduce brand new characters.

When does Skeleton Crew take place in the Star Wars timeline?

Skeleton Crew will take place in the year 9 ABY. In Terran language, this means that it will take place nine years after the Battle of Yavinthe one that closes the film A New Hope (Episode IV).

We are therefore six years after Return of the Jedi (Episode VI), and just under thirty before The Force Awakens (Episode VII). At this time, the Empire fell and the New Republic, still fragile, is slowly taking shape. This is also the year that the events of The Mandalorian take place as well as those of The Book of Boba Fett. However, Skeleton Crew will have no connection, since it will evolve on its own.

Are cameos planned in Skeleton Crew?

With Dave Filoni in production, we can legitimately ask the question: will there be cameos in the series? After all, we had the right to Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka Tao or even Cad Bane in Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

However, it is still too early to answer this question. The series appears to be set in the unknown space of the Star Wars universe, so the possibility of having cameos seems reduced. But who knows, maybe a star will come say hello!

What series are planned after Skeleton Crew?

Lucasfilm does not intend to stop producing Star Wars series after Skeleton Crew. Other projects are in the worksor at least mentioned.

Among the planned series: The Acolyte. All we know for now is that it will take place before Episode I and will focus on the dark side. It should be the one broadcast after Skeleton Crew and we can hope to see it in 2024.

A season 2 of Andor is also planned. The latter should make the link between the first season and the events of Rogue One (2016).

At last, the Rangers of the New Republic case is always nebulous. The series was to feature the character of Cara Dune, who we saw in The Mandalorian. However, the controversial positions of the actress led Disney to thank her. Rangers of the New Republic is not canceled, but its development has simply been suspended. One can imagine that Lucasfilm could one day bring it out in a new form with another character.
