Teufel BOOMSTER: sound quality at home and everywhere

The gap left, some years ago, by the sound equipment (mini-strings, micro-strings and other strings) is already being filled. Bluetooth speakers, some more and some less portable, are here to leave that dust mark on the shelf again.

The speaker we are reviewing today, the Teufel BOOMSTER, is a proposal from the German brand Teufel, which has been in the sector since 1979. Currently they are dedicated to the direct sale of a whole range of quality audio products, from home theater systems, through sound solutions for television, multimedia systems, classic Hi-Fi, headphones, etc. We already had the opportunity to analyze the Teufel Motiv Go, and it did not leave us indifferent.

Teufel BOOMSTER

When opening the box we find a large and robust speaker, with a grille that occupies the entire front, finished off with a smooth edge that protrudes a bit and serves as protection for the grille. In the upper part we find a row of buttons with haptic response on a control panel with a rubberized finish, and also a handle (quite resistant) to be able to transport it, given its dimensions and weight (37cm wide x 18cm high x 14.8cm deep and 3.75kg). On the back we find the input and output connectors (3.5mm audio cable, charging connector, USB and mini USB connection), covered by a flexible cover, and a folded antenna that will allow us to use the radio.

The first sensation that the BOOMSTER gives us is that of a quality loudspeaker, with good finishes and an off-road profile, which just as livens up a party on the terrace or looks luxurious with the decoration of the living room shelf. Perhaps the remote control leaves us a little cold, which, despite the fact that it may be a secondary element, does not fit with the aesthetics or with the level of quality that we see in the speaker. It even looks like a generic remote that we have bought because the original has stopped working.

Despite the large dimensions and weight of the BOOMSTER, Teufel offers us the option of using it in a portable way and outdoors, for this reason it has a high-capacity lithium-ion battery and fast charge that plays up to 18 hours at medium volume. Completely empty battery fully charges in 165 minutes. In addition, the speaker casing is robust, to absorb any shock, and has IPX5 protection against splashes or jets of water. An extra if you want to use it outdoors.

Despite this, the remote control gives us a clue that perhaps the best place for our BOOMSTER to “live” is in the living room (or a bedroom, or the kitchen…). It also has an integrated screen, which will give us information on the search for Bluetooth devices, volume, etc., an AUX input for external players via Jack cable, and a striking USB connection as a powerbank to charge the smartphone. Which, while it may be more useful on the go, will also take a toll on battery life. Question of priorities.

connectivity

The start-up of the BOOMSTER is very simple, in just a few moments we synchronize bluetooth with our smartphone (or the device we want) and we can press play. The connection is made via bluetooth 5.0, multipoint to be able to connect more than one device at the same time and alternate music (and not argue about the playlist), and it has a Qualcomm aptX sound module to improve sound quality, although It should be noted that it is not currently available on iOS.

Thanks to the TWS (True Wireless Stereo) option, we can pair two BOOMSTER sound systems with our smartphone and split the left and right stereo channels to obtain a more powerful sound.

Teufel’s speaker is compatible with Alexa and Google Home for voice control, and can even connect with an Amazon device. However, this is a slightly more complex process than simply connecting it to the same network and having Alexa make an audio “circuit” or something. Depending on the device we have, we must use an AUX cable or establish a wireless connection to establish a stereo system between the assistant and the Teufel BOOMSTER.

Sound quality

Thanks to its closed 2.1 stereo system with Dynamore technology, composed of two tweeters and two midrange speakers, the BOOMSTER provides stable and quality sound quality, and has a Frontfire subwoofer that allows individual adjustment of the bass at various levels, in addition to two passive diaphragms that give them precision.

If we want to use it as sound support for a device to play video, it should be noted that it has lip-synchronization technology. In other words, if we watch a video on any platform, the sound will be lip-synchronized, saving us the hassle of watching a video with out-of-date audio.

At the rear we find something that many may not be familiar with, a telescopic antenna to tune the radio. This speaker has an integrated FM-RDS and DAB+ tuner, for automatic station search, either with the 3 buttons integrated on the top panel (FM), or digitally (DAB+).

Teufel BOOMSTER: conclusions

The Teufel BOOMSTER loudspeaker offers great sound quality inside a robust device, with quality finishes and an off-road profile that, despite its large dimensions and weight, allows us to use it both indoors and outdoors. Because portability is not at odds with design or quality. The BOOMSTER is available in two colors: black and white, and in the Kelvyn Colt Edition (limited edition sold out right now), and you can find it in the official Teufel store for a price of €349.99.
