The electric Dacia Duster and Sandero are coming, but not before 2028

While Dacia currently offers only one electric model, namely the Spring, the Romanian brand and subsidiary of Renault has just confirmed the arrival of two new electric vehicles. Indeed, the Duster and the Sandero will also go through the Electrification box, but you will have to be patient, very patient, before boarding.

While Renault has just presented the electric version of the mythical 4L at the Paris Motor Show 2022, we know more about the projects of Dacia, a subsidiary of Renault since 1999, concerning electricity.

As you may know, Dacia currently offers only one electric vehicle in its range: the Dacia Spring. With more than 50,000 copies sold since the opening of sales in March 2021, the Romanian manufacturer’s electric SUV has become one of the best sellers in France and Europe. It must be said that its starting price, currently set at 19,290 euros, is a convincing argument.

We also know that a new version of the Dacia Spring should arrive in 2024. The CEO of the Renault group Luca de Meo confirmed this in February 2022. Well, imagine that it will soon no longer be the brand’s only electric car.

The Sandero will return in electric version around 2028

Indeed, our colleagues from the British site AutoCar were able to speak with Denis Le Vot, the boss of Dacia. First, the manager mentioned the manufacturer’s desire to launch a large-scale electric model (remember that the Spring is only available in certain European countries). According to his words, the best candidate for the position remains the Sandero.

We can make a multi-energy car (hybrid and electric) for Dacia if needed. We are well prepared. Sooner or later we know that we need multi-energy and we can do it without any problem. There is no date yet, but the next Sandero is an ideal candidate for this”, he explains.

Dacia will use Renault technologies for its electric cars

According to him, this new version of the electric city car should not arrive on the market before 2028 or 2029 at the latest. In addition, the CEO of Dacia intends to exploit “the assets of the Renault Group in the broad sense” to launch this electric Sandero. In other words, the electric Sandero will be based on the Renault Nissan CMF BEV platform, which can already be found on the Mégane E-Tech. By using the technologies and architectures developed by Renault for its electric cars, Dacia hopes to achieve significant savings on development and production costs.

Finally, Denis Le Vot also mentioned the launch in 2033 of an electric version of the Duster. We still know very little about this mounidèle, except that it will be produced in the Dacia factory in Mioveni, In Romania. From 2035, all of the brand’s vehicles will be electric, in order to comply with the ban on the sale of new thermal cars decreed by the European Union.
