This is the new heatsink that the NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics will have

It is not a surprise as such, since we already announced the supposed approximate launch date for the new NVIDIA RTX 40, but if we look back we will see that history repeats itself. And it is that once again the heatsink of the latest from NVIDIA has been leaked, and as we say it is not surprising as such, it is simply an improved version of what exists and would confirm that we are just two months away from the official presentations. That’s how he is RTX 4090 heatsink.

Once again in the Chinese Chiphell forum, a magical hand has shown the latest from NVIDIA for its Founders Edition graphics cards. It is not a groundbreaking design, much less, it is not something new, it is simply a twist to what we have seen with the RTX 3090 Ti, but better optimized for what is coming.

The RTX 4090 heatsink will bring small improvements

Assuming that the photos are real (some are low quality) what we have in hand is something really big and wide. The main design is a slight improvement of the heatsink of the RTX 3090Tiwhich we already anticipated would be the precursor and live test of what the RTX 40 would be, and apparently we were not wrong.

But there are subtle and equally important differences. The first is that the heatsink seems a little bigger, perhaps a centimeter at most, and it also seems a few millimeters wider, which would help in both cases to optimize the dissipation surface for its two fans.

These would rotate in the opposite direction, with Huang’s maintaining the push system on both sides of the graphics card. Also, it looks like this new heatsink will have more fins than that of the RTX 3090 Ti, so it would dissipate somewhat better. As a curiosity, in your profile where the name of each card is marked, you can read RTX 4090 Ti, but we doubt that this is true, where apparently there would be no Titanium model to begin with, it would simply be the RTX 4090 heatsink.

A larger cold plate

We are going to analyze what is seen and few will have noticed. First of all, we see a larger cold plate, in direct contact with the die and judging by the dimensions of the plate, the chip will be large. This has been done to dispel assumptions 450 watts of consumption and better transfer heat to the new heatsink.

On the other hand, we see three rows of VRM, which could really be four, not too well distinguished in the image, two to the right and two to the left of the cold plate. The curious thing here is that one of the four would be in direct contact with the heatsink of this RTX 4090 through thermal paste and not thermal pads.

Finally, this heatsink would work with 11 VRAM modules and not 12 as was speculated until yesterday. This would show that we are dealing with a GPU with 22 GB of VRAM or 11 GB in any case, but we could also be facing another unpublished configuration until now: 3+3+2 VRAM chipswhich would give us 8GB or 16GB of GDDR6X.

It is not very clear because the dimensions when in perspective and slightly rotated distort the comparative distances between the heatsink of this RTX 4090 and that of the RTX 3090 Ti, but both options are possible. Finally, let us remember that since the RTX 3080 heatsink was leaked until it was presented, 3 months. If NVIDIA follows a similar timeline, it is more than likely that we will see them at the end of july or august depending on how the production chain is at present.
