Expert tips for saving light
These recommendations have been given by Naturgy, with the aim that customers can save electricity at home. They are simple changes, most common sense, but it is worth remembering. Perhaps you do not have something well configured at home and you can start today to spend less energy.
Lower the temperature of the fridge in summer
The first piece of advice, and one that you may not have taken into account before, is to use a different temperature in the fridge depending on whether it is winter or summer. In the cold months, the ideal is to have the fridge at about 5 or 6 degrees. Instead, in the summer months you should lower it a bit and set it to 4 degrees.
Why do you have to lower it in summer? The reason is that it is hotter. Every time you open the door, warm air is going to enter. To keep food properly preserved, it should be lowered a bit and thus avoid problems. In winter this would not be necessary. In addition, the air compressor will suffer less in winter and you will extend the useful life of the device.
Freezer to -16 or -18 degrees
Something similar happens with the freezer. Sometimes we pay less attention to it than to the refrigerator and we set a temperature that is too cold. In this case, the ideal is that it be between -16 and -18 degrees. Do not put it at a lower temperature, since you would be consuming more than you need and you would pay more on the bill.
It is estimated that for each additional degree, this appliance can consume between 5 and 8% more. It will depend on the exact temperature and also on the model, but you can get an approximate idea if, for example, you have it at -23 degrees.
TV strip and components
Naturgy experts also recommend use rulers whenever you can. Especially for the television and all the components that are nearby, such as a game console, speakers, controls… All these devices will consume energy in Stand By and a power strip can turn them all off at once.
In this case, it is estimated that phantom consumption can account for approximately 7% of the total bill. Again, we are looking at approximate figures, since it will depend on different factors, such as the number of devices you have in Stand By and the type they are.
control the temperature
Of course, another key factor to save on the electricity bill is to control the house temperature. This is something you should do both in winter and in summer. Each degree more or less can mean 7 or 8% more energy consumption. Therefore, controlling it is essential in order to save electricity.
Ideally, in winter you have the house at 20-22 degrees. You don’t need to have it at a higher temperature. If you can at 20, better. That’s enough not to get cold. Instead, in summer you should keep it at 24-26 degrees. You don’t need to put the air at 20 degrees, for example. You’ll be consuming a lot more energy and you don’t really need it.
Filling the washer or dryer to the maximum
Another recommendation that Naturgy gives is to fill it as much as possible washer and dryer. They are household appliances that consume a lot of energy and it is essential to take advantage of the filling as much as possible. Therefore, do not put the washing machine with only a few clothes or do not turn on the dryer if it is not full.
You will be able to do the same with other appliances, such as the dishwasher. The idea is to take advantage of the energy expenditure as much as possible and not waste that consumption.
As you can see, you can take into account certain recommendations to try to pay less on the electricity bill in your home. Also, if you have a home that is automated, you can take advantage of it to spend less. Of course, it is important to avoid cuts in Wi-Fi, since that will affect the smart devices that you connect.
