Let’s put aside the eternal debate of whether it’s better to buy the Sony or Microsoft console, and let’s be honest: the Xbox Series X has much more powerful hardware than the PS5, while the Xbox Series S sometimes lags a bit behind. little short for the most demanding games. Be that as it may, the fact is that the two consoles added have sold about 21 million units (data from May of this year), and given that there is a large stock and that the Series S version has been on sale several times, it could be a good time to buy your console now… or not?
The (not so) exclusive games
As a general rule, and this has been the case since the Xbox vs. PlayStation competition began, exclusive games tend to be one of the most important purchase reasons when choosing one or the other console; in this regard, we must admit that there are not too many exclusive games for the Xbox Series X | S, and even less those that cannot be played on PC.
Yes, of course there are exclusives that can only be played on the Xbox Series X|S, but there are also many that we have to put in quotes because they are also or will be available on PC… and that is because, after all, Microsoft is Microsoft, and You are also interested in selling games for Windows.
In any case, this is not a compelling reason not to buy the console either (the same thing is happening to the PS5, remember, where its “exclusives” are coming to PC), but it should be a reason to think, as little, if it’s worth doing for that handful of exclusive games or if instead you should consider the possibility of setting up a gaming PC (where by the way you have Xbox Pass… **ahem**).
Is there a new Xbox on the horizon?
Now, buying an Xbox Series X | S right now could be a bad idea considering that there is a chance that Microsoft has a new console in the bedroom.
It is true that there are not too many rumors about it (but there are, be careful), but if we take into account that the Xbox Series have been on the market for a little over two and a half years and that rumors about a possible PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro they have gained a lot of strength, it would be surprising if Sony launches a new console, Microsoft does not do the same.
That said, and although this is pure speculation, we’ll try to be honest, it doesn’t seem like a good time to buy an Xbox Series X | S considering that there is a good chance that a new iteration of the console will be released in a few months. At the end of the day, spending the good money that these consoles cost so that Microsoft launches a better version in a few months… surely that would not sit well with you.
Buying an Xbox now is still expensive
And for the above, we move on to the next reason not to buy an Xbox right now… the price. Despite the fact that these consoles have been on the market for more than two and a half years, their price is still quite high, and in fact when it comes to the most powerful version, the Series X, it has never been on sale (remember, correct us if we’re wrong).
The Series S has been cheaper at certain times and specific promotions, and it really is a console that we could consider to be reasonably priced, but the almost €500 that the Series X costs, which, from our point of view, is the What’s more worth it, it’s still a hefty financial outlay, especially considering that the price of the games isn’t exactly cheap either.
Let’s see, understand us: we are not saying that Xbox consoles are expensive or that they are not worth their price… what we are saying is that it “hurts” a lot to have to spend €500 for the console, games aside, and we will all agree on that, right? No?
The fact is that if Microsoft releases a new version of the Xbox, chances are we can find Series X and S cheaper than they are right now because they’re going to want to clear their inventory, as they say, and for that reason we considered that this is not the time to buy any console, neither more nor less.
Now, if you like the Xbox and you’ve been saving for a while to buy it, go ahead with it because after all you’re going to enjoy it no matter what happens next.
