WhatsApp web already has a beta version

The beta versions of WhatsApp have become, during the last years, in the best source of information about what features Meta is working on and that, therefore, they are not yet official. Either because in these versions what you want to test is activated, or because a reference to that new function is added in the code of said app, there are a good number of magnifying glasses that scrutinize all these new versions in detail, searching and capturing of any sign of news.

As a general rule, most features come to beta versions for Android first, although some debut in the app for iOS, and the native app for Windows usually always ranks third in this classification, since it also tends to have a certain delay in receiving said news, with respect to applications for systems mobile operatives. Something understandable, on the other hand, since the bulk of the use of the service is concentrated in smartphones, which are also its original ecosystem.

Nevertheless, the web version of WhatsApp has been gaining traction over time. I do not have global data, but looking at those of my closest environment, I do see that the most common usage pattern is the one that combines the app for Android or iOS with the web interface, which is much more comfortable when we are in front of the pc. In my case, whenever I’m using the PC I use WhatsApp through its web interface, and it gets to the point that, when I have to have a minimally long conversation through the service, I go back to the PC if I’m not with him at that time. moment.

WhatsApp web already has a beta version

Despite this, this version did not have, until now, a public beta version. However, this is now a thing of the past, and it is that Meta has started rolling out the beta version of WhatsApp web. To be able to access it, two conditions are necessary. The first is to have, at least, version 2.2318.11 of WhatsApp web, and the second, which no longer depends on us, is that our service user account is among those that have already been deployed.

You can check it (and activate it, if you have the possibility and wish to do so) as follows:

  1. Access WhatsApp web through the usual URL, and log in if you had not done so before.
  2. On the main interface, click the three vertical dots displayed on the right of your avatar image, on the top left of the interface.
  3. In the menu that will be displayed, click on “Settings”, then scroll to the bottom of the list of options, and click on “Help”.
  4. If the beta version is already available for your account, then in the bottom left you will see the option “Join the beta version”. You will only have to mark it and you will be in, something that you can confirm visually, since the text “Beta” will be displayed to the right of your avatar image.

There is, for the moment, no news in the beta of WhatsApp web with respect to the normal version, but this is logical, since this mode has just been deployed. However, it will be worth keeping an eye on, because sooner or later progress will begin to show there. In my case I have been lucky and it has already been activated, so I will be more attentive than ever.
