you can download up to 2h of video, pirates have fun

Elon Musk announced news on Twitter on May 18, 2023. Since that date, Twitter Blue subscribers can download videos lasting 2 hours, provided they do not exceed 8 G0. Unsurprisingly, several Internet users celebrated the event by illegally publishing complete films.

Since his arrival at the head of Twitter, Elon Musk has never hidden his ambition to transform the social network into a video-oriented platform. At first, the billionaire rose the length limit of uploaded videos to 60 minutes. Note that this feature is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers, the famous paid formula that allows you to obtain the precious blue pellet.

And on May 18, 2023, Elon Musk decided to go even further. On this official account, the boss of the blue bird confirmed that Twitter Blue subscribers can now upload videos up to 2 hours long and 8 GB in size. Note that the definition is limited to Full HD.

The duration of downloaded videos increases to 2 hours

This is a marked improvement over the 2.20 minute limit imposed on non-paying users of the social network. And for Twitter Blue subscribers, we therefore multiply this maximum duration by two.

Only and without great surprise, it will not have been necessary to wait a long time so that of Internet users abuse this new feature. The idea being precisely to highlight the setbacks to come. Indeed, certified user @coinbilly_ decided to respond directly to Elon Musk’s tweet from the funniest and most insolent way.

Twitter becomes an illegal streaming site

The user posted directly in response the entire animated film Shrek the Third. It should be noted that the Dreamworks Animation feature film lasts 1h31, which allows it to fit right in “in the nails” set by Twitter. Casually, the provocative (and criminally reprehensible) tweet of @coinbilly_ collected thousands of impressions and hundreds of thousands of interactions.

Cherry on the cake, the tweet containing the film remained online for 1h30. The moderation teams then took action (lately) by deleting the video in favor of this message: “This media has been disabled following a report from the copyright holder”.

Note that this is not the first time that we find complete films illegally on Twitter. A few weeks after the acquisition, many Internet users found that Twitter’s copyright system was knocked out. As a result, it was possible to watch the latest fashionable films on the social network, such as Super Mario Bros or Avatar: the way of the water. With the difference that Twitter Blue subscribers had to share the films in several pieces of one hour maximum. Now, a tweet is enough thanks to Elon Musk.
