90% of all Bitcoins have already been mined, it will take more than a century to mine the other 10%

Bitcoin remains the most popular cryptocurrency of the moment, and it is also one of the most undermined. To this day, it is estimated that about 90% have already been mined of all available Bitcoins, which means only 10% remains. Once all the Bitcoins are mined, it will no longer be possible to continue obtaining said cryptocurrency through that route and, in theory, no new units will come onto the market.

It is clear that once that milestone is met, and the mining of this cryptocurrency is complete. The market could be subject to totally new conditions whose effects will be, as you may have imagined, unpredictable. Perhaps this helps to reduce its volatility, but I fear that in the end the opposite will most likely happen, since this cryptocurrency will continue to be strongly controlled by a few investors, who are the ones who have huge amounts in their hands, and those who can, therefore, “do and undo” at will.

Controversies aside, the most interesting thing about all this is not so much what will happen when all the Bitcoins are mined, but the time it will take to get it. According to CoinDesk, it took us about 13 years to mine 90% of the total of said cryptocurrency, but it will take us about 112 years to finish mining the remaining 10%. Yes, this means that it will take more than a century to finish mining all the Bitcoins that will exist, so do not worry so much about the future of your investment in that sense, since by then you will no longer be here.

If you wonder why it will take so long to finish that 10% when we were able to mine 90% in just 13 years, don’t worry, the answer is very simple. When Bitcoin hit the market, mining it was so easy that large quantities could be obtained of her mining with simple equipment. However, over time, the complexity of the mining algorithm grew, and with it the value of each Bitcoin also increased.

Today, the mining complexity of the Bitcoin algorithm has nothing to do with its beginnings, and this makes mining a unit much more time consuming. No need to enter complicated data, just thinking that we will need more than a century to mine a small part of what we mine in just 13 years enough to illustrate the evolution that Bitcoin and its algorithm have undergone.
