Pixar shows us a first trailer for Elemental

With its scheduled release, at least in the United States, for June 16, 2023, Elemental aims to be the next big blockbuster from Pixar, a studio that has already been around for several decades proposing a very personal approach to emotions, and that recovers the path of other productions from the Disney studio, such as Inside Out, WALL-E, Cars, Bugs or the saga that started it all, Toy Story. I am referring, of course, to taking emotions where we would not have imagined them: toys, cars, insects… wow, he even takes emotions to the emotions themselves, as in Inside Out.

In this case, Elemental takes us to Ciudad Elemento, a highly populated, active, and current city, but with a singular difference, which you probably could have deduced from its title. And it is that, indeed, its inhabitants are not made of flesh and blood. Once again, Pixar exercises creative imagination and, thanks to it, leads us to a world of creatures made up of one of the four elements: water, earth, fire and air.

But that its basic composition does not make you think of flames and drops of water without further ado. As we can see in the first trailer for Elemental published by Pixar-Disney just a few hours ago on his YouTube channel, each of the four elements allows us to outline the most particular and complex creatures that will surely give rise to a good handful of jokes, games and entanglements throughout the film. And I remember it again, we are talking about Pixar, one of the most creative studios today.

The interactions between the characters and, therefore, of their elementsThey will play a key role in the film. More specifically its at least apparent incompatibility. And it is that after showing us the interior of a train populated with creatures that go to Element City, the trailer shows us Candela and Nilo, Ember and Wade in their original version. As you can deduce from their names, Candela is a fire creature, while Nilo is made up of water. And although it seems that mutual interest arises from the first moment, the nature of each of them will act as a bump in their relationship.

Directed by Peter Sohna Pixar veteran who has already participated, in different roles, in multiple titles and other studio projects, will feature the voices of Leah Lewis (The Half of It) as Candela, and Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81, Black Box) as Nilo. Two quite young actors (like the characters they play in Elemental) but with a lot of potential and who, thanks to their participation in the latest from Pixar, can see their careers experience a great boost.

In view of the trailer, the study seems to have hit the right button again, although we will still have to wait a few months to confirm it. Of course, and I’m sorry but I have to say it, if at the end of the tape (I accept that it happens in the intra or post credit scenes) it has not been done even once a pun on the film’s title, and the necessary “dear Watson”, I will be really disappointed. Pixar, I hope you took note.
