Microsoft continues to work to overcome the language barrier in Skype video calls, and the truth is that their efforts are not falling on deaf ears. One of the latest innovations that the company has introduced in this regard is TruVoice, a function that allows you to enjoy translation in real time with a voice very similar to ours.
To better understand all the keys to TruVoice, the Redmond giant has shared a video where we can see it in action, and the truth is that it is very interesting. Until now, the real-time translation functions applied to video calls failed to use voices with a very robotic toneand that is precisely what comes to an end with this function.
When activating TruVoice in Skype conversations are much more natural when the translator is used in real time, since it tries to reproduce, quite successfully, the voices of those who participate in the video call. To achieve such a good result, Microsoft has used speech recognition, natural language processing and artificial intelligence.
Starting from all this base, he takes samples of the voice of the participants, and adjust translation intelligently so that the voice sounds very similar to theirs. We can see the result in the video, and there is no doubt that it is very good, although it is true that it is not perfect either. We imagine that over time the result will improve more and more.
At the moment this function is only available in video calls with a maximum of two participants, but Microsoft has promised that in the coming months it can start to be used in group video calls. If for any reason we don’t like this function, we can also deactivate it and keep the robotic voice. It is available for the world’s major languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, French, German, and others.
