Telecommuting is the preferred option for 76% of employees

Teleworking is not yet consolidated in small and medium-sized Spanish companies. Only 6% of employees currently work from home, according to a study by the consulting firm Capterra.

The study has also found that 63% of those surveyed work in the office, while 31% do so in a hybrid model, combining work from home and the office. However, what is most remarkable is that 76% of employees who work only in the office would like to have the option of teleworking.

Capterra’s analysis is based on a survey carried out among workers of small and medium-sized Spanish companies to find out their current situation in relation to teleworking. Through the study, it has been possible to determine that there is a great demand for teleworking in the labor market, and that this opportunity is highly valued by workers who currently do not have the option of doing so.

Save of time and money

The main reasons surveyed employees who do not work from home want to do so are to save time and money, the balance between work and personal life, and to be more relaxed. But, are these expectations met for those who do have the option of teleworking?

The conclusions drawn from the study reveal that 68% of those surveyed in this segment do save time and money by working remotely, and that is that, in this way, they do not have to travel to go to their job. Likewise, 58% consider that they obtain a better balance between personal and professional life, while 56% receive a positive impact on their well-being and mental health.

Loneliness, the main disadvantage in Madrid

Regarding the disadvantages of remote work, what is the opinion of Spanish employees who work from home or in a hybrid model? When looking at the results by region, the Capterra study has revealed that for employees who telework or work hybridly in Madrid, the main drawback is loneliness (46%). Second, there appears Difficulty separating work from personal life (40%) and, in third place, the lack of resources at home that are available at the office (36%).

When making a comparison, it can be seen that the first drawback for employees who work from home or hybridize in Barcelona is the lack of resources that they can find in their workplace (39%). This response is followed by the difficulty of separating work from personal life (38%), and isolation and loneliness (35%). As regards the rest of Spain, the main drawback is the communication and collaboration difficulties with team members (37%).
