Alone in the Dark will still be entitled to a reboot, fans regain hope

No one expected it anymore and yet it is there: a new reboot of the mythical Alone in the Dark is in preparation. The release date has not yet been announced, but instead, THQ Nordic has unveiled a first trailer that smells of nostalgia. Indeed, the publisher assures that this new opus will be a real return to basics, an announcement very well received by fans of the series.

Alone in the Dark reboot

The most cynical will say that the video game industry has now fallen into the same ways as cinema, namely relying on sequels, remakes and other reboots of cult titles rather than risking novelty. And, although this is not entirely true, if only on the independent scene which now occupies a considerable place in the video game landscape, it would be hard to prove them wrong. Just look at the upcoming releases of The Last of Us Part 1 and Modern Warfare 2, or even the rumors of a Quake remake.

While some remakes and reboots surprise no one, others, on the other hand, are more unexpected. Alone in the Dark, for example, is a series that we thought was long buried. The first opus was certainly a phenomenal success when it was released in 1992, and its sequels received a relatively positive reception. But its back-to-back reboot attempts in 2011, 2008 and late 2015 were, admittedly, a series of disasters. However, this did not prevent THQ Nordic from wanting to put the cover back.

A new reboot of Alone in the Dark intrigues fans

Indeed, the Austrian publisher has just announced a new reboot of the saga, which will be largely inspired by the events of the first opus of 1992. Soberly titled Alone in the Dark, the game will indeed resume the scenario of the original title: after the death of his uncle Jeremy Hartwood, his niece Emily and detective Edward Carnby go to visit his home, the Derceto mansion to determine the circumstances.

This reboot is announced as “a re-imagining” from the 1992 game. It will be a “love letter to the cult horror game” according to THQ Nordic. It did not take more fans of the series to get excited. In the comments, many say they are already very impatient to discover this new adaptation. Others, more cautious, rather wait to see what happens. For now, the release date is not yet known.
