Amazon Games takes over the distribution of the next Tomb Raider

Last April we learned, to the great joy of many, that Crystal Dynamics was working on a new installment of Tomb Raider, one of the most iconic sagas in the entire history of video games, and one of the first to make the leap from the start. PC to the big screen, although it is true that its already multiple film adaptations have never reached the level of the best titles that we have been able to enjoy on PC and consoles, since the debut of the first of its installments, in the already pretty far back 1996, a whopping 26 years ago.

Since then, if my memory serves me correctly, there are no less than thirteen games starring Lara Croft, excluding the exclusive ones for smartphones and the like, while the franchise has passed from hand to hand, on some occasions with more success than in others, causing some Tomb Raiders to have been welcomed with open arms by the public and critics, while others have been relegated to a discreet background, for not being up to the task required by a historical saga like this.

At the moment, we know very little about the development of Crystal Dynamics, except that it is in its initial phase, so we will still have to wait a long time until its arrival, and that is being developed with Unreal Engine 5, since the announcement of the game occurred precisely in the context of the official launch event of the development environment of Epic Games. And we can also count on it not being related to the three previous titles, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which was released in 2018 and which completed the trilogy started by Tomb Raider and its sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Be that as it may, although we will still have to wait a long time to be able to enjoy it, these types of releases are managed with a fairly long term, which also serves to keep them in the news focus from the first moment. Thus, if in April we learned that the studio was already working on it, now Amazon has confirmed an agreement with Crystal Dynamics whereby Amazon Games will be the publisher of the next installment of Tomb Raider.

After the success achieved by Amazon Games with New World, and the recent announcement at The Game Awards that it will be responsible for the arrival of Blue Protocol in the western market, Amazon Games scores another goal on the scoreboard, by taking over the distribution of a game highly anticipated by the community. It is already known that Amazon, when it decides to launch into a market, does it in a big way, and adding Tomb Raider to its catalog is a perfect example of this.
