AMD has just presented its AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, its low-mid-range graphics card, which is designed for users who have 1080p monitors and want to play next-generation games on PC. It is a card designed for fans of PC video games who do not have the budget for a mid-range card, much less for a high-end card, which competes face to face against the NVIDIA RTX 3060.
Let’s see what are the specifications and features that this new AMD gaming graphics card promises us.

Both the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT and the RX 6600 are based on the same RDNA 2 architecture that we can find in the rest of the RX 6000, the most modest to date being based on the Navi 23 GPU. It is a card graphics that makes use of a 128-bit bus GDDR6 at 16 Gbpyes, which gives a 256GB / s bandwidth and with a capacity of 8 GB of VRAM. It is also a graphics card that consumes 160 W, so we can connect it to an 8-pin PCIe connector.
AMD presents it as a competition for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, especially in order to be offered as a replacement for the most used gaming graphics card on Steam, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, on which they promise to be between 2 and 2.5 times faster. In case you are doubting whether to upgrade from a RX 5600 from AMD they promise a 40% improvement and if you doubt between an NVIDIA RTX 3060 and a RX 6600 XT then you will have an additional 15% performance according to AMD, but the advantage will be under certain specific conditions.
The cost and availability of the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT? The official launch date is August 11 with a suggested retail price of US $ 379. On the other hand, despite the fact that AMD uses a model created by them to promote this graphics card, they are not going to launch it on the market and all models will be custom and therefore will come from the usual graphics card manufacturers. So we are going to have graphics cards from ASRock, ASUS, BioStar, GIGABYTE, MSI, PowerColor, Sapphire, XFX and Yeston. All with their own specifications, but with the same general specifications, which we will discuss below.
AMD has used a new variant of its RDNA 2 architecture for the creation of the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT which they have dubbed as Navi 23. Which has all the key technologies that define RDNA 2 such as support for Mesh Shaders, Variable Rate Shading and Ray Tracing. Being therefore a gaming graphics card with full support for DirectX 12 Ultimate.
Inside Navi 23 are 32 Compute Units or 16 WGP, what translates into 2048 Stream Processors or ALUs on FP32. This also mean 128 texture units, accompanied by 32 ROPS and one 128-bit GDDR6 interface. Regarding its clock speed rendering the graphics in games, well its Game Clock reaches 2359 MHz, demonstrating the increase in clock speed from one generation to another of the RDNA architecture.
Nor can we forget about AMD’s own technologies, such as Smart Access Memory and the Infinity Cache. The first of them is a fact since it is available as standard in all RX 6600 and is designed to gain performance when using a CPU from the AMD Ryzen 5000 range, the second comes in a capacity of 32 MB, which is a considerable cut from the RX 6700 XT. The Infinity Cache is key in order to reduce energy consumption as it is a Victim Cache that rescues discarded lines from the GPU’s L2 cache and avoids having to rescue them to the VRAM. A lower capacity in the Infinity Cache means a lower maximum clock speed compared to the rest of the models in the range.
Performance with AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution
From AMD they have given the performance figures of their new AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT by applying their super resolution algorithm AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution or AMD FSR. Which allows to achieve higher resolutions or higher frame rates than when the game is rendered in a normal way. This allows in specific cases to exceed the Full HD resolution and go to 1440p in the most advanced games of the moment or increase the refresh rate in those where it is more important, as is the case of eSports where having an advantage in frames counts.
At the moment the support of the AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution is limited, but we must bear in mind that from the moment it is open source and easy to implement, as it does not need prior training as it happens with the NVIDIA DLSS. Which also means that relatively old games are going to receive a patch to make them compatible with the AMD FSR, either by the developer or by the mod community.
So the FSR gives an additional value to the AMD RX 6600 XT as a graphics card to expand your gaming PC and replace that veteran GTX 1060 that you have installed inside or any old graphics card that does not support DirectX 12 Ultimate. The AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT is therefore a good choice for users who want to play the latest generation games on PC and not break the bank in the process.
