Apple could present new iPad models

iPad Air

It’s all rumors and leaks right now, but when the river sounds, it carries water. Apple could present three new iPad models tomorrow, October 17, in a press release. Let’s see what has been said and what the new models would be.

Apple’s annual script

Just a month after the Keynote where the iPhone 15 range (iPhone 15 and 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max) and the Apple Watch Series 9 were presented, A new event was rumored with the presentation of new iPad models and some Mac for the Christmas season, once the student campaign had passed. The script that Apple follows every year is a well-laid plan aimed at maximizing purchases, of course.

However, there were contrary rumors that pointed out, Mark Gurman is and continues to be the leader, that we would not have new iPad models this year. But there have been many rumors of possible leaks that ensure that tomorrow, Apple, in a press release, will release new iPad models.

The confusion is total, because something is brewing and until now there are many contrary opinions. Because those who say that there will be no new iPads this year say that what is going to be presented is the rumored new 3rd generation Apple Pencil. But this contradicts what we are usually used to from Apple, which when it presents a new product it does so in style.

It is common for Apple to make this type of movement, the simple press release, when device updates are minor.. If a specific Keynote had been announced for the announcement of these iPads, they would predict something very new, either in the design or in some revolutionary aspect, that would make Apple’s senior managers appear to comment on it. Something that today is unlikely and would give clues to the presentation of the new Apple Pencil.

Where do the rumors come from?

The news comes from Supercharged, and has been corroborated by 9to5Mac, although it is all speculation, because Apple continues with its usual secrecy. We know nothing about a possible update of the iPad Pro range, which was rumored to come out with the new M3 chip, and new iMacs are ruled out until the beginning of 2024.

It is clear that Apple’s M3 chip will be released very soon, but we do not yet know which Apple device will be the first to have it implemented. The normal thing is that the new range of Macbook Air and the iMac will be the first to carry it, along with the iPad Pro, since for the Macbook Pro there is always evolution, the future M3 Pro and M3 Ultra.

But Apple’s new move with the A17 Pro chip of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, in 3nm, is a bit disconcerting as to which iPad could mount this A17 Pro chip in the future. It is clear that the iPad Air does not, because once the M1 is installed, evolution dictates that it continue in the Mx line of chips. But it is clear that if the “basic” iPad jumped from its usual evolution to the A17 Pro chip, it would be possible, apart from brutal power, to alleviate the criticism of the price increase that occurred last year even though it had already been Pro design.

The annual evolution

The three models that would be presented tomorrow would be the continuation of the evolution of each iPad line depending on its usefulness and price. That is, the renewal of the most affordable iPad range for the normal public, which is the one that most often changes devices when the Christmas holidays arrive, the item that is most often given as a gift.

The new products are presented with their improvements corresponding to the prices we are accustomed to, and the immediately previous models lower their price and are a sweet treat to make a good gift for the Christmas holidays. Everything calculated. That is why the models expected to be updated are the following:

iPad 11th generation

The “basic” iPad in its 11th generation, already with the “Pro” design that it acquired in the 10th generation, would carry the A16 Bionic chip (at least, if it follows its usual evolution), gaining in computing speed and we hope that be compatible with the 2nd generation Apple Pencil. Let’s remember that it is the most affordable iPad and it already rose considerably in price last year, so not many more improvements are expected for its price to remain the same.

One of its “special” features, and what makes it unique, is the location of the front camera, which was placed on its largest side, for a better layout of the iPad in landscape mode. A feature that we will see if the other iPad models adopt or not.

iPad Mini

With the iPad Mini, the same thing happens as with the “basic” iPad, only an improvement is expected in the processor that would also become the A16 Bionic. Outside of that, nothing else is predicted. It already has a Pro design and the basic features of the sister models.

iPad Air

Regarding the iPad Air, the model that is between the basic range and the Pro range, which already took a qualitative leap in its previous version carrying the M1 chip inside, everything indicates that it will have the M2 chip in this update, being Again, a device to take into account for its quality/price ratio.

What do we expect?

As we say, everything based on rumors, The improvements that are discussed are not that they are a big deal, but rather the normal evolution of Apple. New models following the established script of annual improvement of the devices and maintaining competitive prices to be able to consider the purchase of a new device for those who have already had theirs for two or three years.

The thing is not very clear, but the noise announces the inevitable. And it is the typical move by Apple with its basic range of iPads before the Christmas campaign. In any case, tomorrow we will have confirmation of the rumors or a surprise will spring from somewhere.

What do you think will happen? Leave your comment about what you imagine Apple might or might not do tomorrow.
