Apple TV+ recruits Michael Douglas for its next series

Michael Douglas will play the founding father of the United States, on the occasion of a series for Apple TV +.

Apple TV+ will explore the birth of the United States with its new series. The platform will adapt the work Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America written by Stacy Chiff. The book tells how β€œAt the age of 70, and without any diplomatic training, Benjamin Franklin convinced France – an absolute monarchy – to support the American experiment in democracy.”

It will therefore be a question of following the birth of one of the most powerful countries in the world, alongside the famous founding father. Benjamin Franklin will be camped by Michael Douglas, who will also be found in 2023 in the third part of the adventures of Ant-Man at Marvel. This is not the first time that the actor has made an incursion on an SVOD platform. Between 2018 and 2021, he was on the bill of The Kominsky Methodcreated by Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory) and streamed on Netflix.

Telling one of the most ambitious bets in history

According to Apple, the series should tell one of the “biggest bets of Benjamin Franklin’s career”. A plot that will be adapted by Kirk Ellis, rather accustomed to historical productions. He had notably participated in the John Adams series, with Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney.

Behind the camera, Tim Van Patten will work. The director is not at his first attempt since he has signed several episodes of very popular series, starting with Game of Thrones and Black Mirror. Here, he should operate solo for the entire first and only season.

For now, we do not know when this new production will be released. Nevertheless, Apple TV + has many other projects in its drawers. The platform should notably explore the theme of mental disorders with a series featuring Tom Holland, Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum. The firm will also make a foray into Korean drama with the adaptation of a world bestseller: Pachinko.
