MEDION, the example that cheap is expensive
As we mentioned before, if you were thinking of buying a MEDION desktop or laptop PC, perhaps you should think twice, since this manufacturer is the living example of those who attract attention with good technical specifications but who skimp on too much in the quality of the equipment. For example, in the image above you can see a MEDION Akoya team with an open side, and the disaster that we can find is obvious:
- Tier 5 FSP brand power supply.
- Unrouted wiring, going through the entire interior and obstructing the airflow of the box.
- OEM heatsink for the processor, cloistered towards the side grille. This causes the fan to absorb fresh air from outside, but that air remains bagged inside the box because the heatsink is of the shell type, producing hot air pockets and hindering the operation of the rest of the components.
- Poor quality metal case that, in fact, has the power supply in the upper area absorbing the hot air from inside the PC, instead of fresh air from the outside area.
- Custom-format motherboard (if it breaks, you won’t be able to buy another standard ATX and take advantage of the gear), with only two RAM sockets (not expandable). Only one PCIe x16 port.
- OEM RAM with JEDEC speeds and no heatsink.
- It doesn’t even have a rear fan to blow hot air out.
This equipment could well have some very attractive technical specifications, especially in terms of the processor, but as you can see the rest of the features leave much to be desired and that makes the PC become noisy and lose performance in a very short time. Sometimes cheap is expensive, and this is an example of this.
