Artificial Intelligence “Copilot” arrives

A few hours ago the Microsoft Build 2023, a conference in which Microsoft has presented a large number of news, both for developers and users. As usual lately, Artificial Intelligence has been present in a large part of this conference. And, what until now was a shouted secret, has become a reality: Microsoft has fired Cortana to hire Copilot, its most advanced AI.

Copilot is not a Artificial intelligence new. Programmers already know it for being the assistant that helps them code (and, in many cases, even does their work for them) within Visual Studio Code. This AI was originally trained using the source code from GitHub (which is also from Microsoft) and released, for a fee, to all users who wanted to use it.

Now, Copilot has made the leap to the company’s operating system. And it’s going to become much more than a basic assistant like Cortana was.

What we can do with Copilot in Windows 11

This new assistant is going to be accessible from the entire operating system, and we can use it for whatever we want. Literally. From chatting for him and asking him what we want to know to Help us access certain settings Windows, play music, search the Internet, summarize PDF documents… everything we can imagine. Of course, text generation as we know it right now will also be available to all users.

This new assistant uses Bing Chat as a base, and takes advantage of all the training and all the information that the Bing chat has been collecting. In addition, Copilot uses the same algorithm as a training algorithm. GPT-4 that OpenAI uses in its ChatGPT, so it should be able to perform the same actions as its rival. This algorithm stands out for using much more natural language than its predecessors, and much more concise and direct responses.

Last but not least, Microsoft has announced a collaboration with OpenAI thanks to which it will be possible bring all plugins to Copilot, current and future, that exist right now for ChatGPT. A great announcement thanks to which the potential of this AI can be triggered when we connect it, for example, with OpenTable or Wolfram Alpha, among many others.

When will it arrive?

At the moment, Microsoft has announced that Copilot’s AI is coming to Windows 11, in beta phase, next month, that is, in June 2023. What we do not know is when it will reach all users, nor if we will be able to access the first test versions of this AI from Spain, even if it is from Microsoft Insider Program.

For the moment, to be able to solve all these tough ones, we will have to wait a while longer. Most likely, this is one of the biggest novelties that we will find ahead of the launch of 23H2, the end-of-year update for Windows 11. But, we insist, nothing is known about release dates yet.
