Audi will put Verizon’s 5G in its cars from 2024

Audi plans to roll out 5G in its cars from 2024 with help from Verizon. The partnership was formalized today.

Audi has just announced a partnership with the American telephone operator Verizon in order to develop 5G in its cars. According to the joint announcement of the two companies, this agreement should make it possible to offer improved connectivity as well as better software performance. Navigation should also be impacted (positively) by the arrival of 5G in the cars of the best-known ring brand in the automotive world.

The firm, based in Ingolstadt in Bavaria, hopes to be able to produce vehicles with new technologies in the coming years thanks to this partnership. In particular, 5G could be the key to the implementation of V2X communication, which will allow vehicles to communicate with their environment, thus improving driving quality in the coming years.

Verizon’s 5G in Audi cars is coming soon

Verizon has announced that the roadmap for this partnership should lead to the implementation of 5G Ultra Wideband in the brand’s new vehicles. The two firms have announced that the first results of this partnership should not be seen before 2024 and the release of connected cars.

Improved connectivity will pave the way for new features, such as “augmented mobile services, new driver assistance features and connectivity-based innovations for the automated future of driving”the companies say.

5G is highly anticipated in the automotive world, promising a connection speed up to 100 times faster than 4G. But for the moment it is struggling to convince users. The latter are very often disappointed with the power of the network, and the latter has the greatest difficulty in setting up, accumulating construction delays.

Audi wants to be part of the inner circle

For Audi, the bet on 5G is logical, it has been in line with its development for many years now. Other car manufacturers have also implemented communication systems within their vehicles. This is for example the case of neighboring Mercedes, which has equipped its 2017 E-Class and 2018 S-Class with the V2V system. This technology is also available in the 2017 Cadillac CTS.

The next step therefore seems to be the arrival of V2X in the cars of tomorrow. For the moment, and despite the interest shown by many manufacturers in this technology, no one has produced a car that supports it. Audi hopes that this partnership can place the firm with the rings in the first positions.
