It is likely that after seeing Black Widow many people wonder where it was Red Guardian during the events of Avengers: Endgame and the battle against Thanos.
David Harbor, interviewed by Comicbook, he talked about this mystery, but without giving a clear answer on the position of the Red Guardian during the last Avengers movie.
During the gigantic confrontation between Avengers and Thanos, where was Red Guardian?
As an initial part of Phase Four, Black Widow will introduce new characters to the MCU. Fans will know Natasha Romanoff’s surrogate family outside of the Avengers, which should further contextualize the sacrifice that took place in Avengers: Endgame.
These characters include the Red Room recruits Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) e Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz). David Harbor, best known for his role as Sheriff Jim Hopper in Stranger Things, will play the Russian version of Captain America thanks to the super soldier Red Guardian. Harbor previously described his character as “not exactly the heroic and noble man that people want him to be”.
During an interview, the actor was asked if he knew what he was doing Red Guardian during the events of Infinity War ed Endgame. Specifically, because his character did not appear in the final battle against Thanos. Here is his answer:
I asked myself these questions too. Indeed, with Black Widow the story takes place before the events seen in Avengers 3 and 4. You add a lot of information to known characters and introduce new ones. Both the director and I have speculated a lot about where Red Guardian might have ended up during Endgame. A lot of fun ideas came out but we never asked the source, directly from Kevin Feige. I will do it shortly.
Harbor went on to joke that it wouldn’t be right to put Thanos against a “such specimen” as Red Guardian.
Upcoming MCU movies such as Shang Chi or The Eternals, as well as Black Widow, will have the task of explaining why the superheroes present did not intervene during Thanos’ attacks on Earth. If the Eternals, as stated by the trailers, could only watch and guide humanity, the same thing shouldn’t have happened with Shang Chi or Red Guardian, both present somewhere in the world during the Infinity Saga.
To find out more we will have to wait until September for the film Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, while for the Eternal we will have to wait until November. A wait that will certainly be worth facing.
