Cowboy Bebop: Netflix series canceled after only one season

The smell of cancellation had already been in the air for some time but, today, the official confirmation has arrived: Cowboy Bebop, the live action series by Netflix taken from the homonymous anime, it was canceled after only one season.

Cowboy Bebop has been canceled from Netflix

The decision of the streaming giant was made despite the fact that, since its release on the platform, there was already talk of a second season of the show. The same finale of the first season, very open and ended with the introduction of a new character (well, new for those who have never seen the anime), suggested that a second season of Cowboy Bebop would be only a matter of time.

But no.

Netflix pulled the plug on the sci-fi project less than a month after its debut (it debuted on the platform last November 19th). A project that has been received lukewarmly by both critics and the public and which, probably, is not worth the investment made by the company on the show.

Insiders have indeed pointed out that Netflix’s renewal rate for scripted series that have two or more seasons is 60%, in line with the industry average and, like all renewal decisions by the company, the decision was made by weighing the appreciation of the public and the cost of the show.

Fortunately, we can still console ourselves with the episodes of the original anime, present now on Netflix.

See You Space Cowboy …
