Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 officially slip to 2023

Bad news for all Blizzard fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of Diablo 4 And Overwatch 2, whose release date has now officially slipped to 2023.

The postponement was announced on the occasion of a communication to the company’s investors, explaining that Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 will not arrive on schedule.

The release dates of Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 officially slip to 2023

“While we are still planning to release a significant amount of content from Blizzard next year, we are now planning a later launch for Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV than originally planned.”, the company said in the statement.

The delays appear to have been attributed to changes in leadership at both Blizzard and the game’s development teams. Diablo 4 lost its director and lead designer over the summer, while Overwatch 2 lost its executive producer last September.

“It has become apparent that some of the Blizzard content planned for next year will benefit from more development time to reach their full potential.”Activision Blizzard said.

Both Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 were revealed in 2019 and were expected to debut in the near future, despite neither having actually ever had any specific release dates.

In addition to the upheaval of Blizzard’s management following a lawsuit in California relating to harassment and sexual discrimination in the workplace, the delays are certainly also due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused quite a few production problems in the video game industry.

Activision Blizzard has confirmed that a “preliminary build” of Overwatch 2 will still be used for the start of the fifth competitive season of the Overwatch League, when it starts next spring but, as for the new release date, no one knows anything yet.
