Why does the Bluetooth icon disappear
It is undoubtedly a very important connectivity tool for many users, so any problem related to it can cause more than one headache. The presence of this button is a quick and convenient way to access its configuration section, as well as having direct access to several of its functions.
That its characteristic blue button is not displayed in the system bar can be due to several reasons. The most common is that we do not have it activated, because while it is deactivated the icon is never shown. Likewise, we may have accidentally clicked the Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area, which would explain why it is absent. Other reasons may be that the Bluetooth support service is disabled or that the drivers have suffered any failure. In addition, we cannot download that a specific malware could have been the cause.
The only certainty is that whatever the reason it happens, the truth is that what we want is that it can be solved. Before rushing to the technical service, we are going to tell you a series of methods that we can carry out ourselves in order to try to remedy it quickly.
Steps to fix it
Next, we are going to see different actions that we can take to get the Bluetooth button to reappear in the system tray
Activate Bluetooth
The first thing to do is check that Bluetooth is on. To do this we must access the Windows Settings menu by pressing the keyboard shortcut “Windows + I”. Later we click on “Devices” and in the new window, we select on the left “Bluetooth and other devices”. Once here we check that it is activated. In case the button says «Deactivated», we press it so that it appears in blue and indicates «Activated».
Later, on the right-hand side, we click on the “More Bluetooth options” section. In the new window, in the “Options” section, at the bottom we find the “Notifications” section. Here we must make sure to check the box «Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area ». Click on “Apply” and “OK” to save the changes and restart the computer so that the changes are saved correctly. Once finished, we check if the icon reappears.
Check if the Bluetooth service is activated
The next method that can help us to end the problem is to check if Bluetooth support service is activated. If it is not, it may be the main reason why the icon does not appear. To verify this, we must access the Windows Services Administrator. This is something we can do by pressing the keyboard shortcut “Windows + R” to launch the Run command. Later we write services.msc.
Once the list with the available services is shown, we must look for the entry “Bluetooth User Support Service_ce965”, which is responsible for the correct operation of this. We double click on it and on the “Startup type” tab and change the “Manual” mode to “Automatic”. We check whether it is running or not, and if not, we click the “Start” button to start it. We click on «Apply» and «OK» so that the changes are saved and we check if it already appears correctly.
Uninstall and reinstall the drivers
That the icon does not appear in the system tray can be caused by a Bluetooth drivers failure, so it would be convenient to uninstall and reinstall again. This is something that we must do from the “Device Manager” which we access by pressing the keyboard shortcut “Windows + X”.
Once it appears on the screen, we display the Bluetooth section and right-click on our device and select the option “Uninstall device”. Once it has been uninstalled, we must restart the system and Windows will install it again.
In case Windows is not able to install it correctly then we must carry out the process manually. If, for example, our Bluetooth is from Intel, we can download it from its official website. Later we return “to the Device Manager”, we click again with the right button on our Bluetooth device and we select Reinstall device manually by selecting the drivers that we have downloaded. Once done, we activate it and check if the icon appears again in the system bar.
Use the problem solver
Windows has its own troubleshooting tool that interfere with the correct functionality of Bluetooth, so it can be an option that we should not ignore. To do this, we access the “Settings” menu and click on “Update and security”. Then we click on “Troubleshoot”. Then at the bottom right of the screen we click on “Additional troubleshooters”.
On the next screen, in the “Find and fix other problems” section, click on the “Bluetooth” section and click on the button. “Run the troubleshooter”. This tool will detect any problems automatically. Once finished, we restart the PC and verify if the button already appears in the system tray.
Pass the antivirus
Finally, we cannot rule out that a virus or malware has caused the problem, so it is advisable to carry out a system analysis. If we use Windows Defender as a security measure, we can choose to run it by typing “Windows Security” in the search box of the Start menu. Later, we click on the “Antivirus and anti-threat protection” section. From here we can opt for a “Quick Test” of the system. In case it does not detect anything, we can opt for a more exhaustive analysis. To do this, click on “Exam options” and choose “Complete exam”. Finally, we click on “Browse now” and wait for it to finish, which can take a long time, depending on the size of our hard drive.
