Folding smartphones have always been very expensive products, but their price could well drop in 2022. Some models could even be placed at the same prices as other high-end traditional smartphones.
According to the Digital Chat Station leaker, foldable smartphones may well encounter a huge success in 2022, in particular thanks to lower prices. The first generations of foldable smartphones, launched from 2018, were mostly overpriced, but manufacturers have gradually pushed prices down.
Indeed, While the Galaxy Z Flip 2 was sold at nearly 1499 euros in 2020, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 saw its price drop to only 1,059 euros in 2021. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 had seen its price decrease to 1,799 euros, against a little over 2,000 euros for the previous generation. It seems that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 will again be entitled to lower prices.

Foldable smartphones will be more affordable in 2022
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 was the first folding smartphone to be offered at a price similar to traditional high-end models, but according to Digital Chat Station, other models should also benefit from similar price cuts. So we can expect the 2022 Galaxy Z Fold 4 to be relatively more affordable than the current model, and it could therefore be offered at the same price as the most expensive classic smartphones, around 1,500 euros.
We already know that Samsung plans to produce nearly 2.9 million Galaxy Z Fold 4, and 6.9 million Galaxy Z Flip 4 in 2022, much more than the current generation. The increase in the production rate could therefore help to pull prices down..
Manufacturers could also lower the prices of their foldable smartphones because of the diversification of the offer. Indeed, while Samsung has so far reigned supreme in this market, new competitors have recently been unveiled, including the compact OPPO Find N a few days ago, or the Xiaomi MIX Fold at the start of the year.
