Gears of War is undoubtedly one of the most relevant sagas regarding Microsoft exclusiveswith permission, always, from Master Chief (not to be confused with the cooking show PLEASE), a saga that is celebrating precisely today, as it marks 16 years since its global launch (although in some regions it debuted a few days earlier), on a day like today, November 7, but in 2006, in its version for Xbox 360 (the version for Xbox One debuted just a year later).
Since then, and counting the first of the series, there are six titles of the main series, to which we must add others like Gears Tactics or the canceled Gears Of War Exile project, which intended to bring the franchise to the Kinect ecosystem. Thus, with ups and downs, there is no doubt that Gears of War has left a more than evident mark on the sector and that, consequently, it is one of the references that can never be missing when talking about the most relevant game sagas.
Thus, and as a consequence of its success and to celebrate its birthday, the saga has received an unexpected but celebrated gift since, as we can read in The Verge, Microsoft and Netflix have reached an agreement to produce a movie live action and an animated series geared towards adults from Gears of War. And if this first phase goes well, it will only be the beginning, since the plans of both companies contemplate the production of more content (although their format is unknown) based on the franchise. And yes, it is not the first time that a similar movement has been heard, but this time it has been confirmed.
There is no information, yes, neither of arguments nor of dates, so we may still have to wait a while until they hit the Netflix grid. We do know, mind you, that Netflix is working directly with The Coalition, the Xbox Games Studios studio directly responsible for the Gears of War franchise. This is not an unequivocal indication that the production will be able to bring all that is good from the games to the film and the series, but at least it is a good sign, in the sense that both productions will be well integrated, plotwise. , in the context of the franchise (or at least it should be).
This new movement adds to the already multiple Netflix productions based on games. The most recent is the quite successful Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners, inspired, rather than based, on the CD Projekt RED game, but we must also remember Arcane, which brought to the audiovisual one of the most successful games of recent years, League of Legends, as well as currently active projects, such as the BioShock-based movie and the Assassin’s Creed series, among others.
If it happens to you like me, that you already comb gray hair, maybe you remember the times when it was the video game developers who were inspired by the great hits on the billboard. Seeing that, today, this phenomenon occurs mainly in the opposite direction, is a clear sign of how much the gaming sector has grown since those distant eighties and nineties.
