It seems that soon we will be together again (for rama lama lama, ka ding it ty ding de dong) to the protagonists of Grease thanks to Paramount +, who officially ordered the first season of a prequel series to the cult 70s movie. Its title will be Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies and it will be set “Four years earlier than shown in the film, putting four marginalized girls at the center of the story who dare to have fun without following the rules, a situation that changes Rydell High School forever.”
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, the prequel series of the 1978 cult film, is coming
As revealed by Deadline, the teen stars of the series will no longer be however Rizzo, Frenchy, Marty is Jan. The project, which has been under development since last autumn, will bring totally new characters to the screens.
The series, originally intended for HBO Max, was written, created and produced by Annabel Oakes (Atypical), also engaged as showrunner; while the producers team will also include Marty Bowen and Erik Feig.
The first season of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies will be composed of a total of 10 episodes which, at the moment, remain however without a precise release date. In Italy, we still don’t know where (or if) it will be broadcast.
Will the prequel series of Grease be able to imitate the success of the original film, which with only 6 million of budget raised almost 160 million dollars at the box office (stratospheric figures for the time)?
