Sony has unveiled the American and European ranking of the most downloaded games in 2021 on PS4 and PS5.
While 2022 is already well underway, Sony, a little behind, is the last to reveal its ranking of the most downloaded games in 2021. On the program, a lot of sport, strategy, but also great touching stories, and PlayStation exclusives that hit the mark. We take stock of the American and European rankings.
Lots of diversity in your favorite games
To better understand the consumption habits of gamers, but also to reflect the impact of next-gen exclusives, Sony has divided its rankings into two categories: PS4 games and PS5 games. In Europe, unsurprisingly, it is FIFA 22 which dominates both categories. Iconic game for football fans, the franchise has once again placed itself in first place, this one being a must for evenings with friends. FIFA 21 even ranks third on PS5 and fourth on PS4.
On Sony’s latest generation console, we also note the success of call of duty vanguard, in second place, and Battlefield 2042 in fifth. Same Among Us managed to climb to sixth place despite only being released on consoles on December 14! There are also adventure games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Far Cry 6, It Takes Two or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and all that in the top 10.
On PS4, we find a totally different ranking for Europe, with less recent games, but which are proof of a timeless success. We find for example GTA V in second place, Minecraft third, Red Dead Redemption 2 in seventh and The Witcher 3 in eighth.
In the United States sports games dominate
Across the Atlantic, however, it is not the same story. Indeed, sports games are favored over adventure games or even shooters, with a domination of contact games. Number 1 on PS5 is indeed NBA 2K22, fourth on the PS4 ranking, followed by Madden NFL 22 in fourth (PS5) and sixth place (PS4), or even MLB The Show 21 in eighth (PS5) and ninth place (PS4).
For VR games, however, we find more or less the same titles, as well as for free-to-play. The first category is represented by the cultissimes Beat Saber, Job Simulator and Superhot VR, while for free games these are Fortnite, Rocket League and Warzone who share the podium in the two regions of the world.
