Hideo Kojima joins Valve to finish Half-Life 3 and release it in 2023

Unexpected bomb. In other times, video game magazines would have stopped their machines and changed the cover to accommodate what is the most anticipated news of the last decade. Surely there are no two names that arouse so much hype as Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid Y Death Stranding, Y half life 3, one of the shooter most dreamed of by a large part of the community gamer on PC.

Kojima and Gabe Newell.

End to a soap opera too long

That Valve has turned to Hideo Kojima to finish what they have been developing half life 3 It says a lot about what Gabe Newell expects from what will be the next installment of the mythical FPS saga. A move no one expected but that has been brewing over the past eight years. Precisely, now the reasons behind the abrupt cancellation of that PT Demo presented at E3 in Los Angeles in 2014 when the Japanese was scared without giving too many explanations, leaving Guillermo del Toro more thrown than his pinocchio of wood.

It was in that year, in 2014, in the month of September, when Valve offered Kojima to take over what they were made of half life 3 to give it shape and his particular vision, and thus recover all the resources that the North Americans had invested without much success. Now, it has finally been known that that movement that has been kept secret since then, is going to lead to the sudden and surprising launch of half life 3 in 2023 for both PC, PlayStation, Xbox and, here comes the umpteenth joy, Nintendo Switch.

What do we know about Half-Life 3?

The first thing we know is that the japanese has been leaving tracks these years about that secret that he hid and that he came to share so much during the final development of Metal Gear Solid V as later that of Death Stranding. No one on his team even knew of his alliance with Valve for half life 3 and only loose gestures that he has been launching in different interviews and official videos have managed to give meaning (now) to the announcement that has just been made today.

In the video that you have just above there is a clear clue. At minute 0:45 Mads Mikkelsen tells how he met Hideo and it is Kojima himself who makes a gesture of nodding his head to then look at the actor to his left. That movement, it has now been known, had been agreed with Gabe Newell to make it public as a sign that the development of half life 3 It was on the right track and all the changes that the Japanese presented to the studio could already be experienced in the closed beta that, at that time, was flying to Los Angeles on a private flight.

A beta version that has been transported protected by an entire Marine Corps and kept only in physical format to avoid online leaks. That lone sample of Valve’s title was recorded on a fluffy platinum Blu-ray state-of-the-art, refractory to the laser engraver of an external ZIP drive, and to be able to boot on a PC the user had to wrap the CPU tower with transparent sandwich paper beforehand.

These measures, which try to avoid a repeat of the same leak which occurred with half life 2 20 years ago, has been to blame for the enormous delay suffered by the development of a half life 3 which will tell us the story of a revived Gordon Freeman that he will have to travel to the erupting summit of Krakatoa to find the matches of the apocalypse and light them to end City 17.

At the moment little else is known, except that half life 3 is now officially a creature of Hideo Kojima that we can play on PC and consoles from 2023.
