How many Xbox Series have been sold since launch? we already know the answer

Xbox Series X review

The number of Xboxes sold worldwide is always a secret that the company refuses to reveal, basically because it is always below its most direct rival, PlayStation, and also Nintendo. Being the third is not bad, of course, but if you do not share the figures publicly, it seems, it is better. The problem is that those figures are already known.

Some slides with spoilers

Microsoft is celebrating in Brazil the ID@Xbox Developer Accelerator Programa meeting in which to encourage and motivate developers to continue betting on the Microsoft ecosystem, providing development tools and publicizing new projects.

Well, it seems that among the many talks and slides presented, one of the data that could be seen is that of the consoles that have been sold since the Xbox Series hit stores. It is important to clarify that the data mixes both Series X and Series S models, so we cannot identify exactly how many units of each model have been sold.

The figure ensures that there have been more than 21 million units those that have been sold of the consoles, currently a total of 79 million units that have been sold in total, adding to what was collected with Xbox One. It is interesting to see that the 48% of users who bought an Xbox Series S were released for the first time on the Microsoft platformwhich shows that the little one in the house has worked fantastically to attract those who had not yet decided on the Microsoft solution.

How far is Microsoft from Sony and Nintendo?

Xbox Series X review

Knowing that the Xbox Series has reached 21 million consoles, we can now put those more than 1 million into perspective. 38 million PS5 that we know have been sold, or the more than 125 million switches that exist all over the world since it was put up for sale in 2017.

Obviously the case of Nintendo is quite special, due to the length of the generation and the very different proposal that it provides, but in the case of Sony, a 17 million difference with Xbox does not seem so painful if we take into account the absolute domination that it has had PlayStation in recent decades.

It is clear that Microsoft lacks a good momentum to be fairly competent, and it is possible that this is the main bargaining chip with the FTC when it comes to validating the purchase of Activision, a master move that would help it grow a lot.
