How to Keep Your Equipment Safe & Protected While On a Worksite

If you’re in the construction industry, you’ll know that theft can be common on worksites. Managing expensive equipment becomes difficult when you’re on large land areas with multiple staff and limited security. Thieves can take advantage of these situations, and if you don’t have the right system in place, you can end up with thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen.

In order to protect your equipment and avoid delays, many options are available. You must ensure you have suitable systems by implementing proven strategies and techniques and updating your systems. Luckily technology has come a long way, and newer security products are constantly being produced on the market.

You should avoid any nasty losses on-site if you have the right security system and update your setup regularly. We will go through some tested and true methods as well as newer technologies that can help protect your equipment.

Hire Security

The first thing you could do is find adequate security staff to assist in keeping your perimeter safe and secure. It would depend on the size of your worksite and how many teams you may need, with larger worksites requiring about 4-5 security staff members. Having security on site is a great deterrent; these staff members can also help operate security technology such as CCTV and manage authorised workers.

Inventory Management Technology

Security technology has come a long way, and today, we have multiple options if we want to store our expensive equipment securely. Using electronic equipment storage options such as industrial vending machines can help automate the tracking of items and even allocate items to authorised staff only. These features help increase the overall security of your worksite and even deter thieves from trying to steal in the first place.

Install CCTV

CCTV should be high on your list if you’re serious about security. It will stop thieves from trying anything cause they know they’ll be recorded. It’s also great to look back on footage and use evidence if you’re unfortunate enough to have items stolen. Getting CCTV systems is highly recommended if you already have security staff that can review footage and monitor the cameras in real-time.

Secure Equipment

It should go without saying that it’s essential to secure equipment, but we thought we’d add it to this list as some operators tend to forget this step. Worksites may seem secure on the surface if they’re fenced up or remote, but thieves are becoming more experienced and privy to entering complex perimeters. Ensure you have an additional level of safety by securing your equipment within on-site or remote storage.

Train Your Staff

If your staff members are not on board with your safety and security protocols, this may be a significant hole in your security. Ensure that all staff are trained and training is updated monthly. When you purchase new equipment or install new protocols, ensure new staff are aware by facilitating appropriate training.

Install Alarm Systems

This one may seem obvious, but many operators neglect the importance of installing alarm systems. It’s a simple step that provides much protection for your business and inventory onsite. Installing can help deter thieves by simply having the alarm systems visible to the naked eye, paired with CCTV and security staff are a winning combination for onsite security.

Takeaway

Onsite security is vital if you want to manage your expensive equipment. It is often neglected due to construction work’s short time and contractual nature in multiple locations. If you invest, you’ll surely make that investment back by deterring potential thieves. Don’t risk it, and keep your gear safe.
