How to make Epic Games download your games faster

Today, and thanks to the connections of Bandwidth Internet, it is very common to have a library of digital games on platforms such as Epic Games or Steam. However, due to the large size of games today, it may happen that you have the feeling that it downloads too slowly. For this reason, today we are going to tell you what you have to do so that Epic Games download the games faster, if possible, of course.

Epic Games Launcher is one of the most important online gaming platforms, and they have a wide library of games that users can access. The problem can sometimes have to do with server overload from Epic Games, but you will realize that this is a one-off thing and it doesn’t always happen, so if your problem is that you always download too slow, let’s see what you can do to solve it.

Check your internet connection first

First of all, there is a concept that you have to be clear about: that you have contracted a 300 MB Internet connection does not mean that you are going to download at 300 MB/s; Internet operators give these inflated figures for marketing reasons (they tell you Megabits and not Megabytes), but the reality is that if you have 300 MB of fiber your maximum download speed theoretically (because then in practice it is almost always less) it will be about 38.4 MB/s. You can check this for yourself using a free speed test, without going any further.

Remember that most speed tests tell you the result in Mb/s and not in MB/s, the result would have to be multiplied by 0.125 to obtain the real data (for example, the 930 Mb/s download becomes about 116 MB/s

That said, if you have constant problems in terms of download speed, it never hurts to restart the router (and the ONT if you have one) from time to time, since the models that the operators give you are easily saturated. In addition to this, it would be ideal to check that you have certain open ports in the router settings; Epic Games recommends having the ports open 80, 433, 443, 3478, 3479, 5060, 5062, 5222, 6250, Y 12,000-65,000.

That Epic Games does not block your download speed

If you are already sure that your Internet connection speed or having ports blocked on your router is not the problem, let’s see what we can do directly in the Epic Games Launcher. Contrary to Steam, we don’t have much to configure on Epic, but there is one setting that you need to make sure is off. Open the launcher and click, in the upper right corner, on the initial of your name or your avatar if you have it configured, and there go to Settings.

Epic Games Downloads

As you can see in the screenshot that we have placed above these lines, there is a parameter called “Limit downloads”, and obviously it should be unchecked to NOT limit them… if you had it checked, it is very likely that you downloaded slowly for that reason, and making Epic Games download faster would be as simple as unchecking that parameter and restarting the Launcher.
