If Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher 3 malfunctions, it’s not your fault

Currently, the most relevant video game developer with the most projection is CD Porjekt RED. This company has created awesome games like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, two true AAA titles. But, both games malfunction if you have a AMD Ryzen 7000 processor Series and a card NVIDIA RTX 40 graphics Series, and active DLSS 3.

The only great advantage of consoles over PC is in the optimization of games. Although the game on consoles is not usually optimized much, doing so is much simpler. In the end, you have three hardware configurations (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) against the hundreds of combinations of components in a gaming PC.

FPS drop due to an incompatible configuration?

NVIDIA DLSS is a technology created to compensate for the losses generated by the use of Ray Tracing. The game runs at a lower resolution than desired by the user and AI and Deep Learning are applied for rescaling. A trick that allows you to compensate between 75-90% of the FPS that are lost when using ray tracing.

The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 support DLSS 3 technology. If we run this solution, in theory, we should have extra performance. But when you combine a AMD Ryzen 7000 processor series and one NVIDIA RTX 40 Series, the opposite happens. When enable DLSS 3 With that combination of components, the FPS rate drops.

Don’t worry, it’s not a problem with your configuration and neither with AMD and NVIDIA. It seems that the problem would be in the REDEngine graphics enginedeveloped by the company that created both games.

Specifically, these two games have been tested with a combination of AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and NVIDIA RTX 4090. As indicated by DSOGaming, who have discovered the problem, both games cannot be enjoyed. There are problems of 2-3 second flashes and while the FPS drops below double digits.

Faced with this problem, they wanted to carry out a performance test with another configuration. They have kept the graphics card, which they have combined with an Intel Core i9-9900K. The result: no problem.

Subsequently, they have tested other games in the AMD + NVIDIA combination. Specifically Forza Horizon 5, Microsoft Flight Simulator and Hogwarts Legacyin all cases with DLSS 3 active. They have not presented problemsthe games have worked perfectly.

Everything indicates that the problem would be in the graphics engine of the CD Projekt RED games.

What can be done in this case?

We see how the problem is when NVIDIA DLSS 3 technology is activated, so the solution is obvious. Simply, we must disable this technology in the game settings and that’s it. We will be able to enjoy all the games based on REDEngine without problems.

We must emphasize that, with the hardware configuration described, it is difficult for us to have FPS problems in 4K resolutions. We imagine that during the benchmarks of the Ryzen 9 5950X3D processor they noticed the problem.

Now it will be time to wait for CD Projekt RED to rule and provide some kind of solution to the users. The first thing they’ll probably do is recommend against using the DLSS 3 feature with component merging. We will see if in subsequent updates they manage to solve the problem, so that all users can enjoy the best gaming experience.
