Intel Core i9-13900KS is 15% faster in single thread than the Ryzen 9 7950X

The Intel Core i9-13900KS will become the next top of the range processor of the chip giant into the general consumer market. It has not yet been officially presented, but thanks to the leaks that have been taking place in recent weeks we have a pretty clear idea of what we can expect from this new chip.

We know that it will maintain the specifications of the Intel Core i9-13900K, which means that it will have 8 P-cores (high performance) based on the Raptor Cove architecture and with 16 E-cores (high efficiency) based on the Gracemont architecture. The difference that the Intel Core i9-13900KS will make compared to the previous one will be given by the working frequencies, since the latter will have a more aggressive turbo mode that will allow it to reach the 6GHz frequency.

If we compare it with the Intel Core i9-12900KS, the difference is considerable, because it had a turbo mode capable of reaching 5.5 GHz. The Intel Core i9-13900KS will have a peak of 500 MHz plus of frequency, although I imagine that it will only be able to reach it with two active threads, and that this speed will go down depending on the total load of cores and threads. Also keep in mind that a higher frequency implies a higher consumption.

Regarding performance, thanks to a leak we have been able to see that the Intel Core i9-13900KS would reach a peak of 2,366 points in the Cinebench R23 single-thread test, and a score of 40,998 in the multithread test. For comparison purposes, the Ryzen 9 7950X reaches a maximum peak of 2,057 points in and 39,689 points in those same tests, which means that Intel’s new chip will be up to 15% faster on single thread than AMD’s chip, and 3.3% faster on multithread.

It’s not a huge difference, but it’s enough for Intel to strengthen its position in the market. The company should have no problem keeping the single-threaded performance crown (it’s hotly contested in multithreading because the Ryzen 9 7950X is very competitive thanks to its 16 cores and 32 threads), but it could lose it in gaming when AMD releases the new ones. Ryzen 7000X3D, which will follow in the footsteps of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and come with 3D stacked cache.

We still do not know the price of the Intel Core i9-13900KS or its official launch date, but it will most likely be presented at CES in 2023 and hit the market on January 12 with a price between 100 and 200 euros higher than the Intel Core i9-13900K.
