Intel leaks reveal the alleged existence of Windows 12

A deleted Twitter message that was published by the leaker @leaf_hobby shows not only some features of what would become the platform Intel Meteor Lake for desktops, but has also exposed alleged internal documentation from the chip giant that mentions the existence of Windows 12the future major version of the well-known Microsoft operating system.

Intel’s presumed next generation of desktop-oriented processors would support twenty PCIe Gen5 lanes, with sixteen dedicated to the GPU and four for storage. This is an improvement compared to the current platform, which is limited to sixteen lanes in total. Also, the Z890 chipset would feature four additional PCIe Gen4 lanes, so it’s likely that Intel is preparing a direct rival to AMD’s 600E platform.

These are the data allegedly leaked by @leaf_hobby About Intel Meteor Lake:

  • It would feature four additional PCIe 5.0 lanes, probably geared towards M.2.
  • PCIe 5.0 sixteen lanes (x16).
  • Quad lane PCIe 5.0 (x4).
  • Quad lane PCIe 4.0 (x4).
  • I would not have AVX512.
  • The Z890 chipset would have four additional PCIe 4 lanes for a total of 24 (x24) lanes of PCIe 4.
  • Wi-Fi 7 would be released.
  • The possibility that Windows 12 is on the list of supported systems.
  • For now, there would only be evidence of configurations of six high-performance cores with eight efficient cores and six high-performance cores with sixteen efficient ones, although the existence of configurations with eight high-performance cores is not ruled out.

Intel Meteor Lake-S

It is important to note that the existence of processors Meteor Lake-S, the desktop-oriented line, is not yet confirmed. In recent weeks, there have been quite a few rumors circulating about its cancellation and replacement with a Raptor Lake soda. The reason could be based mainly on the low expectations for hardware sales for the year 2023, especially if we see that graphics card shipments are down more than 40% in the third quarter of 2022.

Aspects such as Wi-Fi 7 support have already been mentioned in previous leaks and rumors, so what is surprising is the mention of that alleged Windows 12, which, if the traditional calendars were met and released with Meteor Lake, would see the light of day in just two years. after the initial release of Windows 11. Is Microsoft unhappy with the performance of Windows 11, especially with regards to issues? If the company really wants to correct this front, it will have to make efforts not only in the external aspect of the system, but also in the introduction of changes at the development level and in the update deployment policies.
