At first glance, the iPhone 13 looks a lot like the iPhone 12. But what happens when you dive into the specs for both phones? What difference can Apple’s new mobile make?
The iPhone 13 is here, but that doesn’t mean it has driven the iPhone 12 out of the Apple product line. Last year’s mobile is still sold by the brand, but it has simply dropped in price (for those who do not necessarily want to be equipped with the latest technologies).
We take a look at the differences between the two devices.
iPhone 12 versus iPhone 13: what design differences
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 are very similar in design, just like the Pro models. Apple’s new mobiles have made few aesthetic changes compared to the previous generation. Only the notch at the top of the screen has been slightly reduced (by 20%) on the new version.
The photo sensors have been arranged diagonally rather than one below the other, too.
Otherwise, the screen size remains the same at 6.1 inches and the two generations of phones look very similar.

If we believe Apple’s speech, the iPhone 13’s Super Retina display is ” 28% brighter “Than that of the iPhone 12. It can also go up to 800 nits in standard brightness and 1200 nits if HDR rendering requires it.
Otherwise, the two phones have the same OLED display, the same front panel in ” Ceramic Shield »Supposedly super resistant and the same True Tone and Haptic Touch features. Both generations support the DCI-P3 color gamut.
The photo between iPhone 12 and iPhone 13
It is probably on the front of the photo that this iPhone 13 stands out the most from its predecessor. Both wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle sensors on the iPhone 13 still point at 12 MP each, but their construction has been improved. The iPhone 13 and the 13 Mini now benefit from mechanical stabilization on the wide-angle sensor – which was not the case for the 12.
This should allow the iPhone 13 to reduce camera shake in photos and above all to capture better night shots thanks to a longer pause time.
Lots of other software features have also been added to the iPhone 13, which should make it a bit more competent than the iPhone 12. On the front photo module, nothing seems to have changed, however.
Performances
Who says new iPhone, automatically says new processor built by Apple. The A15 Bionic chip replaces the A14 Bionic which fitted the iPhone 12. On paper, the two processors have fairly similar technical characteristics: 2 cores dedicated to performance and 4 cores ” high energy efficiency“.
The A15 like the A14 is engraved in 5 nanometers. This year, however, the chip dedicated to artificial intelligence has been improved, as has the part dedicated to graphics performance. But Apple has remained fairly discreet about the other aspects that differentiate this new chip from the old one.
The autonomy of the iPhone 13 has been improved
The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini have a larger battery than the previous generation mobiles.
- The battery of the iPhone 13 Mini thus promises 1h30 more autonomy compared to the iPhone 12 Mini.
- That of the iPhone 13 promises to last 2.5 hours longer than those of the iPhone 12.
These are welcome improvements, especially in the case of the Mini which had an often too light autonomy.

The iPhone 13 is not a revolution compared to the previous model. In many ways, Apple’s new phone looks like the one from 2020. That said, the manufacturer has improved on key points like photo performance and battery life that still make this new model stand out from the old one. .
The iPhone 13 is a quiet evolution of the iPhone 12, which you don’t have to jump into if you’re happy with your current smartphone.
