Sunrise released the first trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island (Kidō Senshi Gundam: Cucuruz Doan no Shima), the new anime film of the saga created by Yoshiyuki Tomino And Hajime Yatate in 1979.
The feature film, which we can see right here below the promotional video directly from the Twitter profile of the film, will debut in Japan at the beginning of next summer.

Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island is the reinterpretation of an episode of the classic series never broadcast
Cucuruz Doan’s Island is set in the timeline ofUniversal Century, more precisely it refers to the One Year War. In practice, it is a reinterpretation of episode # 15 of the classic Gundam series, created as a filler but subsequently never broadcast in the West because it does not meet the quality standards imposed by Yoshiyuki Tomino himself.
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (character designer of the original 1979 TV series and author of the comic book Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin) will direct the film, as well as take care of the design of the characters together with Atsushi Tamura (Weathering With You) e Tsukasa Kotobuki (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, Saber Marionette J).
Ka Hee Im is credited as assistant director while Toshizo Nemoto (Macross Delta) is writing the script. Kunio Okawara, Hajime Katoki And Kimitoshi Yamane, historical mecha designers of the Gundam saga, are working on the meche design of the film, with Takayuki Hattori (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin) who is composing the music.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin MSD: Cucuruz Doan no Shima (Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin MSD: Cucuruz Doan’s Island) by Junji Ōno launched in Kadokawa’s Gundam Ace magazine in May 2016 and ended in May 2019 for a total of 5 volumes. It is a spin-off of the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko and tells the story of Cucuruz Doan, a character who appeared in the aforementioned episode 15 of the original anime. Doan is a Zeon pilot who abandoned his post after refusing to carry out an order.
