Mojo Vision: the new smart contact lens

It seems that we are closer than ever to what could be called the new ‘smart lens’. Who is behind this great technological revolution is the company Mojo Vision: its latest working prototype brings to the world a final product that will improve the quality of life of millions of people.

The functions of this new augmented reality smart contact lenswhich lie in helping the user to carrying out their daily tasks, are possible thanks to the technology created by the American company: in the center of the lens there is an implemented Arm M0 processor and a Micro LED display with 14,000 pixels/inch.

The most amazing thing about the Mojo lens is that the integration of all of the above, which will allow you to carry out actions as varied as viewing a compass to orient yourself or even read any text on a teleprompterit does not affect at all that the final prototype has the same dimensions of any average lens: it is only 0.05 millimeters with a pixel size of 1.8 microns.

At first it will seem strange to us to order actions with the movement of the eyes, but this is its great novelty together with useful AR graphics that integrates: the Mojo lens implements, although they are not visible, an accelerometer, a magnetometer and a gyroscope to achieve two important goals: control of the interface in an ocular way and that the augmented reality always remains visible even when blinking or making natural eye movements.

The new mojo lens vs. AV glasses

Aesthetics and simplicity are the two main aspects that make the difference. The smart glasses that are already sold today in state-of-the-art establishments are too large and complex: in the case of Nreal Air or Stories they give them a sunglasses look to combat this unpleasant look.

with the new prototype presented by Mojo Visionthis problem disappears completely: the new smart lens only needs a sneaky little accessory that is put around the neck, as a necklace. This tiny, shock-proof device is also vital to this new eye technology, as integrates GPU, a processor and 5 GHz radio for receiving and sending data to and from the device placed in the eye.

In any case, Mojo Vision is aware of how much it has to improve the prototype: although microprocessor lens more comfortable than AV gogglesit is very possible that the great consumer does not welcome the obligation of always having to wear this necklace no matter how small it is and that it is not yet known with total certainty how hot it can get.

This is openly expressed by the CEO of the company, Drew Perkinson his personal blog, «Thanks to this breakthrough, we have a optimal testing platform which helps us refine and build Mojo Lens to eventually produce commercial approval (…) to achieve this, we will conduct multiple clinical studies to test the capabilities and provide feedback on the software and applications.”

Therefore, although a large part of society is eager to be able to use technologies as futuristic as this, it seems that we will have to wait at least ten years to make Mojo Vision’s smart lens a reality on the street. And when that time comes, according to Perkins the world will change: athletes will get the most out of it in their high-intensity workouts or, for example, any user can use it to request an Uber or a Cabify.
