It is evident that on Netflix they have been waiting for it for a long time, as the trend in the streaming market has been pointing in this direction for some time now. And even so, it is more than imaginable that the blow has not gone down well at all. Gone are the days when the dean of streaming platforms reigned easily in that market, either without rivals to face, or in the early days of the same, when they did not pose a real threat to the company.
Over time, however, Netflix began to lose a lot of content, which were claimed by the big producers for their own platforms. The first response from the company was to bet on its own production, which over the years has led to some great successes, but also some productions that should remain forgotten, and others that managed to hook a considerable number of users. but despite this they were canceled by the company.
More recently, you already know, they have tried to compensate for the drop in subscribers by pursuing shared accounts, in a rather daring move that has had a very negative impact on Netflix’s image. In response to this, they have begun to lower subscription rates in some geographies, although for the moment this measure has not reached our country. In short, what his image does not go through the best of his moments.
Thus, this moment was predictable, but also the worst to receive this news. And it is that according to what we can read in 4gnews (in Portuguese), Netflix is no longer the streaming service with the most subscribers. According to a study carried out by JustWatch, whose graph you can see above this paragraph, Prime Video has snatched the gold medal, with 21% of the market share, one point above the 20% added by Netflix. Complete the Disney+ podium, with a remarkable 15%.
It is true that the data collected by JustWatch corresponds to the United States market, but still point to a trend that is quite globaland that it will be even more so as the current conversion that the streaming market is undergoing makes the offer in the different countries increasingly similar.
Going from first to second position, and by just 1%, may not seem like a big deal, but in reality it is just a milestone in a trend that has been showing for some time. The big question, now, is whether Netflix will be able to find a way to reverse the trend, and whether it has time to do so.
