Rumors continue to grow around the next tablets from Apple. The iPad Air seems to be in pole position.
The CES gave pride of place to manufacturers of Android smartphones, the Apple brand being historically always very discreet during the Las Vegas show. But while the world of new technologies is slowly starting to regain its cruising speed, Apple has come out of the shadows and rumors have multiplied in recent weeks regarding the next announcements from the Cupertino company.
Indeed, according to several more or less reliable sources, Apple is about to launch a new generation of its iPad Air this spring. The fifth version of this iconic Apple tablet should therefore be entitled to a launch early this year. Among the new features expected by analysts of the Apple brand, the arrival of 5G is scheduled for this year. In other news, Apple should unveil the A15 chip, already present in the iPhone 13.
The iPad Air at the heart of the spring keynote?
Finally, the last major novelty expected with regard to the iPad Air; a change in the camera and FaceTime. Indeed, Apple has made great efforts on this point on the latest generations of its iPhone or iPad (Pro and Mini), but the Air version is the last version of the tablet that does not yet have the right to Center Stage.
If the iPad Air is therefore at the heart of covetousness and rumors, Apple would not stop there, and 2022 should be the year of tablets. As the well-known Mark Gurman explains in the latest issue of his Power On newsletter, the Apple brand should wait until the end of the year to launch a new version of its iPad Pro.
The latter should have the right to what the Cupertino company knows how to do best, but also new features. Indeed the iPad Pro is often used by Apple as a “laboratory” to test new high-end features. If the latter are proven, they are found a few years later on the iPhone.
MagSafe on iPad Pro? Gurman says yes
Apple’s next full-scale test, Gurman says, should therefore be the placement of a glass Apple logo on the back of the phone to facilitate wireless charging of the tablet. According to the first information on this subject, also relayed by Filipe Espósito, the glass back should make it possible to accommodate MagSafe on an Apple tablet.
As a reminder, this proprietary wireless charging technology has arrived on the iPhone 12. If the technology has therefore already proven itself, it remains to be seen whether the magnets of the charger will be powerful enough to offer fast charging to a tablet.
